Fuel Refilling Station

Built my own tractor refueling station this weekend. Its a 15 gallon plastic barrel with an automotive type electric fuel pump powered by a small trailer battery. I got tired of holding a 5 gallon jug almost 5' in the air to reach the tractor tank. And since my tractor tank holds 8 gallons I'd have to use two jugs to fill it.
Its much easier to turn on a switch and refill the tank in a minute or so than waiting for the safety type 5 gallon jug to put some fuel in then suck some air before the next few ounces went in. (I hate safety jugs that don't have a vent hole)
The black piece on top is made from some 1/16" metal I wrapped around the tank, clamped then removed and welded. Then I welded a couple cross pieces to support the pump and battery. The battery fits snugly in a plastic electrical box. The entire unit is removable if I want to take the tank to fill at the truck stop or I can use the pump to refill it from the 5 gallon jugs.

Mine is very similar in concept.

Added a suction tube to the pump inlet so that I simply stand it in the drum.
Also added an in line on/off switch and I take my 12 volts from an aux plug that goes directly to my battery.
That way I can transfer from a variety of containers.

My diesel refueling station is the rear tank on the F-150! It was built with dual tanks and when the rear valve messed up I decided that it was better to by-pass it than risk another failure. I bodged up a hose from the in-tank pump with a brass quick-coupler and a el-cheapo plastic nozzle and when I flip the new switch to the rear tank the pump comes on and I can fill at will.

The factory switch is still in the dash and I tried to figure out a way to run the rear pump with the key off but nothing doing w/o major modifications. I figured it was easier to use a new switch with a fused B+ and the existing wires than to out-smart the factory switching.

I have still to get all the gas from the rear tank, remove the nozzle restrictor and label it "DIESEL" only, but at least the pump works

I enjoy, and it looks like the OP enjoys, using off road diesel. I saved 64 cents per gallon today when I refilled my 55 gallon barrel with 50 gallons for 32$ savings!!! If you were to use the rear F150 tank for off-road diesel it might get you in a jamb when some uninformed policeman sees you filling a pickup tank with it. Sure, you could explain it away but you might not like the situation.

I use my bulk tank and a hand pump to fill the tractor directly or to fill the 5 gallon jugs for later pouring into the tractor since my 7 gallon tank will need to be refilled in the field when spending a day mowing.

Glad to see that the electrical fuel pumps are reasonably inexpensive these days.

ORD would be GREAT if there was a local station that sold it

I think I'd have to drive about 45 miles, round trip, to get it. Sure, I'd save 50 odd cpg on the diesel but waste an hour or more and $9 worth of gas to do it. If I had a larger tank, like a 90+ gallon used truck tank, then it would make total sense.

1*You can't run diesel in a gas truck and the tank isn't plumbed into the trick engine so I see no problem.
