Oil & Fuel Fuel shutoff solenoid on a BX22-TLB

After running the tractor for a few hours I thought I was done for the day and shut it off. Within a few minutes I restarted it and there was a large puff of white smoke from the engine. I shut it off opened the hood but couldn't see anything wrong. Turned the key and saw it again but it would not restart. The problem was the fuel shutoff solenoid had burnt up. It was still under warranty but it would have cost $120.00. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem

The fuel solenoid on mine blew a coil after about 4 years. The cost was the same $120.

The only real difference in symptoms was that mine would start but not continue running once the key was moved to the run position.

Used to see this problem on an L2850 I ran while I was working on a golf course summers during college. The fuel shut-off solenoid locks in and holds for 5-10 seconds to ensure that the engine is shutdown. You can hear the click of it releasing not long after shut down. Therefore, it has a short duty cycle. It can't stand being on for extended times. Every now and then we'd cook the solenoid on the L2850. Took us a while (2 replacements) to discover it was related to a good washing. (Ok, we were slow). Seems there was a short somewhere, and it would lock on when wet, and afterwhile it burn up. From then on when we washed it, we'd pull the fuse.

Am I saying this because it helps you or that it has any bearing on your problem, well, know, but thought I'd mention it just the same.
