Fuel stabalizer

Wow, I’m so lucky E0 90 octane is available 2 miles from house. I have heard the Seafoam is good and better than Stabil. I put a can of Seafoam in my cars twice a year to help keep injectors clean. When I put my riding mower to bed for the winter I fill the tank up to the neck with E0 87 octane. You can thank Al Gore for putting corn in your engines.

I must be lucky, as my local (a few miles away) filling station has marked fuel, both gas and diesel, (sans road fuel tax) and the gasoline is premium, no ethanol.

I run it in all my small engines, and run them dry before storage, and have never had to service the carbs in the 8 seasons since I started doing this. I also mix my 2-stroke at about 30:1, both tactics come from my small-engine mechanic, who now just sells me parts as my small engines have been working so well based on his advice.

Ethanol is only a problem in engines that do not run very regularly. It will absorb water, which will support growth and foul the fuel system. It's fine for passenger vehicles, just not for small engines. My small engine mechanic does not like Seafoam for small engines, says it leaves more residue than it clears up.

I have used Sta-Bil with 10% ethanol fuel for my chain saws for a couple of decades now. No fuel-related problems. Best not to go more than a year in storage for the mix, though. They claim 2 years.
I rarely have had problems with chain saws either with ethonol fuel and no additives as 2 cycle gas has oil added and that seems to have helped also . I had an old chainsaw that sat well over 2 years and no additives other than oil in the gas and it started up with no problem . Yes I did dump the old gas out and put in new but the carb was not gummed up at all which I am sure would have happened with just plain ethanol fuel .

Im tired of having problems with small engine carbs and I plan to do something about it.

In my area finding ethanol free gas isnt easy and from what I have read dosent necessarily solve the problem.

I know that running the fuel tank empty at the end of the season isnt the answer either because Ive seen first hand the powdery white residue left behind after things dry out.

What do you guys do to not have any problems?

Im looking into a fuel additive called Sta-Bil. I know little about any of these additives.
I haven't had a problem for years since I got sick and tired of ruined carbs/injectors from ethanol fuels. 1st thing I did was install inline fuel cut off/shut off valves, you can get a pack of 10 on Amazon for $10.99 search for "HIPA (Pack of 10) 1/4" Inline Fuel Cut off Shut Off Valve." When I'm done using the gen, lawn mower, pressure washer, chain saw, 4 cycle outboard, weed cutter etc. I turn off the fuel and run the system dry. 2nd thing for rarely used equipment like the generators I keep everything topped off and add Sta-Bil, make sure you disconnect the power prior to running them dry. Can't install a cut off on my newer chainsaw so I just empty the fuel tank and again run it dry. Now if someone would make the guy that approves the 5 gallon gas can spouts and force him/her/them to fill up his car for a year with only the leaking spouts maybe we'll get something that actual works.

I have switched small engines over to battery power. Weed eater, chain saw, pressure washer.

The zero turn, snowblower and generator are the three small gasoline engines I have. They are all kept full when not being used regularly and fule is stabiled. No issues with them starting the next season.

However I do tend to make sure the fuel in the fuel cans is turned over every couple months by running it through the car if we don't go through it.

Deisel for the tractor is treated with powerservice in the white bottle for winter operations. Not treated for summer but that fuel never sits for more than a couple weeks in the summer. It sits for an indeterminate time in the winter just depends on the amount of snow we get.

I use power service in the white bottle also but it and most other products listed here do nothing to prevent algae or slime build up . I buy my fuel using 2 - 5 gal. containers and over several years of use I could see a mold type substance in the bottom on my containers . I ended up washing out my containers with bleach . I can just imagine what the bottom of my fuel tank may look like . I replaced a dirty fuel filter and just bought another one , and a couple of products to take care of slime and algae . I will treat my fuel now for algae also from time to time and hope that problem is solved . I use less than a hundred gallons per year so it does sit for awhile at times .
