I have been looking and pricing. I can get a fuel tank set up at home and buy gas in bulk and save pretty good money. The tank and pump set up is about $3000 and I have figured with the amount I use my break even time is 2 1/2-3 years. Buying 500-750 gallons at a time I can save 30-60 cents a gallon on no ethanol gas, which I run in everything, even my cars. Am I missing something or is this a good idea?

I hope you don't run gas in your diesel tractors.
I did the same a few years ago. With a 12 gallon tank on my tractor it got to be a hassle running to the fuel station to get 15 gallons at a time. I bought a used 275 gallon home heating oil tank and a 12V diesel pump and hose setup and get my diesel delivered now. Much cheaper than pump diesel and don't have to use my fuel to go get it.
I'm not sure if there are any rules or laws about home delivery and tanks for gas but its much more flammable than diesel. I'd keep it far away from any structures.

I would be surprised if local government will allow storage of 750 gals of gasoline anywhere residential.

If they do, I don't think your home owners ins will allow or if they do your premium will probably be much higher. If you don't tell them and have a fire or contamination issue, they may not pay.

Last, you have to consider if you can use the gas fast enough. Gasoline does not store well.

Just some things to consider and research.

Diesel is completely different. Diesel tank in a rural area is common and diesel lasts much longer.

There is another thread on here where someone had a real nice shed for fueling.

Let us know how it works out.

You can totally do it. Have a friend who lives way way out in the country and kept both a very large diesel and regular gas tanks at his house. Saved them a lot of time and hassle out in the country.

I use 500-600 gallons in 3 months, so I don't think shelf life will be a problem. I have no codes or inspections where I'm at. No one here will sell or deliver bulk in quantities less than 500 gallons. And 750 gallon tanks seem rare. So would there be a problem with a 1000-1500 gallon tank that's not full? I don't want to have to be completely out of fuel before I reorder.

I don't see a problem with a bigger tank. I never had a gasoline tank but that was how I filled my car up as a teenager  :cool2:

I would mostly worry about sparks. It sounds like a good idea.

I have a 125 gallon diesel tank in an elevated stand that I take down to the gas station once a year to fill. I use gravity to fill my tractor.:

The problem with a tank you cant keep full is condensation. I have taken as much as 20 gallons of water out if my old 220 gallon Aluminum tank.

Also, summer and winter blends can be a issue but probably not as much with non e gas

If you haven't, try contacting the bulk fuel supplier and see if they will give you a tank. I have a 500 gallon that I got for free. Works great and only get fuel from them.

I've tried to get a free or lease a tank. They will do that for customers who use 3-500 gallons per week and up.
