Hi all you Kioti owners lol. Just wondering if any of you have issues with the gas cap being hard to open. When I go to refuel I need to have channel lock pliers to open the darn gas cap. Impossible to open by hand why? If you do please tell me how you fixed it. I was thinking of using one off my car and see if that fixes it. Thanks for an input

I don't have a Kioti, but my Kubota RTV 900 is the same way. I really have to strain to get it off and being as it is kind of up in a recessed hole, makes it very hard to get but one hand on it. I too have resorted to a strap wrench occasionally since it is about 4.5" in diameter, channel locks don't fit too well. I put some grease on it but that didn't seem to help. Maybe some graphite, but I don't have any of that.

You can open mine with your little finger. Almost no tension. Take it apart and see what is wrong with it.

Mine is not hard to loosen. Your vent might be plugged, starting to pull a vacuum in the tank. Do Not use cap from the car, most of those have no vent.

Hmm. I cant remember if his CK30 has a metal gas door over the plastic gas cap or not. That is what I have on the DK35se and I assumed that was what he has too, but maybe he is referring to the black plastic screw on gas cap, I dunno.. some pictures would be nice.

Take what apart the cap? and look for what? I mention this to the dealer and their reply was that this is a common problem with the gas cap vent design because of the build up of pressure inside the tank from different temperature changes. Typical dealer answer. This is why I am turning to you guys.

Thanks guys I guess I am not the only one with that problem. Yes it is the black cap under the chrome door on the hood. Will check the vent etc on the cap. Thanks all

My Dk-35 was that way, so is my current DK-40. I find if I use both hands and press on each 'ear' of the cap in a twist off direction it does give up, but not without some effort.:confused3:
Or try putting a rag over it and de-torquing with one hand- that works too...

Same problem on my bobcat/kioti.

Seriously, that is a problem. I mean I have had a lot of farm tractors ( IH, Massey Fergusons, Fords ) over the year and never had issues with gas caps. Why only on these or other Korean makes

Same problem with my JD G100 riding mower. It sure doesn't help that the cap is in a recess, either. Rag on cap and two hands has alway done it, though.

Yep!! I have the same problem with my Bobcat CT335, with the same black threaded cap.
It's recessed just enough to make it difficult to get a good grasp on it with my hand.

Try wiping some silicone grease, or silicone spray if you don't have grease, on the rubber gasket of the cap, and on the threads if they are tight. Silicone is compatible with most all plastic and rubber types.

Mines tighter than (I'll behave) too...

My chain saw developed a similar problem that (according to some) was caused by the the cap swelling from additives (allegedly alcohol) in the fuel. I bought a new gas cap (which works fine) that has redesigned threads.

My 2006 DK gas cap has no problems at all.

Perhaps the plastic formulation during a certain period or for a certain lot swells when exposed to fuel/vapor. It might help if the few folks that have this tight cap problem include the tractor build date (as indicated by the first digit of the serial number) in their posts. It would also be informative to know if anyone tried to replace the tight cap with a new one (or swapped with a neighbor whose cap is fine) to see if this is a cap or tank problem. In the mean time, those of us with an EZ off cap can't be much help.

This has really gotten me curious, I have never had a bit of trouble with the recessed black plastic cap on my DK35se. Now I don't tighten the chit out of it either, just gently secure it. But I swear I have never had any trouble getting it off. So many of you have posted, there has got to be something to this. Perhaps some of the plastic formulations, or something? :confused3:

Perhaps they are tightening the chit out of it like I do my Kubota RTV cap to keep it from leaking when I have it full. If I gently tighten it, fuel will seep out especially on a hill and all my property is a hill, either up or down. I put it on with one hand fairly tight but it is nearly impossible to remove it without some mechanical assistance or a double donut cut off the rear strain.

Mine is the same, I usually turn it until it ratchets one time and stop, It's not easy to remove at all.

Same problem on my DK50 with the fuel cap. By far, my worst problem is with the oil and gas caps on my Husqvarna chainsaw. Without pliers those puppies are not going to budge!
