Fuel trailer

Sorry to have written the original post & not followed up on it, but things have been a bit hectic this week. Here's a couple pictures of the tank & trailer. I would only be traveling about 5 miles to get the fuel. I am sort of a weekend warriors doing things with the tractor on our 15 acres. 30 gallons of fuel would last me 2-3 weeks and would eliminate the need for the stupid DOT 5 gallon containers I 1have been using. I usually end up spilling about a half of a gallon trying to get the fuel to flow into the tractor because of the convoluted design, & having to push this & hold that, plus the things are not vented so it takes forever. I'm looking for something that is user friendly, & will let me refuel quickly! 20180726_194939.jpeg20180726_194930.jpeg

I have the same idea of making a fuel trailer. I have a old trailer that was gave to me that I took with the intentions of just cutting it up for the metal but I got a 3500 lbs axle for $50.00 and I have rims with tires sitting in my barn that would fit the new axle so I was going to buy the springs and put the new axle under the trailer. Then I was going to weld on some angle iron to bolt a wooden floor to and then add finders. For the tank I have 2 ideas. 1. I was thinking of just bolting the tank directly to the floor and it would be used strictly for a fuel trailer. or 2. I was going to build a heavy duty pallet to bolt the fuel tank to that I could load with my forks on the FEL and have either a way to bolt the pallet to the trailer or use my big 2 inch wide straps to strap the tank down. That way I would then have to trailer to use for other things like hauling my mower of the 4-wheeler behind the wife's suv. I plan on putting a filter and water separator on the pump. I bought the tank and pump used from a guy who was just needing the money so I got a good deal on it. But after reading your comments about the laws about having a fuel trailer I'm wondering if its legal for me to do this or not.

I completely understand wanting a fuel trailer of any capacity. Gas cans suck.

Fuel is only six lb per gallon. Maybe your spring choice is too heavy duty. Go garden trailer wimpy and add shocks?

Anybody who watched Dukes of Hazard, A Team, or any tv show from the 1980s knows only the bad guy or the secretly escaping hero ever has a vehicle explode.
Diesel fuel is 7.1 lbs. per gallon.

A couple of people have touched on bulk deliveries. Fuel suppliers here will bring out tanks on stands (not sure about costs) to set on site and fill them as you need it. Probably have a minimum use per year, but for some who use a lesser quantity, what about a tank shared between neighbors? You'd only have to go there (or they come to you) instead of town, truckstop, etc. which means tractors could be driven to it.
