Fuel Transfer Pump

I have 3 55 gallon steel drums in an old Chevy bed made into a trailer. I bought the cheapest 12v electric pump TSC sold. I hook the trailer to the truck and go to town and fill. Bring it home and park it under a carport type thing I built. Drive the tractor up along side, and fill her up. Been doing it for over 20 years, same pump, same tanks, same trailer. Effortless, reliable, process and low cost.

I have a transfer tank similar to HayDude's (post #10). What I found is do NOT use an aluminum pump and I'd question an aluminum tank as well. Actually, the problem is aluminum threaded fittings since the threads eventually deform and start leaking. I've used thread sealant and lock nuts to keep it from moving, but ended up replacing the pump with a cast iron one. I currently have a steel tank and a cast iron pump.

I used to have an aluminum tank for gasoline which worked well because I did not use a transfer pump on it. I had a welded on connection to transfer fuel from the tank to my main vehicle tank via a switch in the cab that ran a holley pump mounted on the frame rail.

So, I guess the bottom line is use steel or if you go aluminum, be prepared to weld the fittings.

Wow, never had a problem even going back to previous tanks....
