Oil & Fuel Fuel Transfer Strategies

I also have a HanD pump ...it does not work well at all.... Gotta be a better way. I was thinking maybe a little drill pump on my cordless drill......

As I said I've only used the han-d-pump one time and it worked well. My tank is only 5 1/2gal and my practice with power equipment is to top off after each use so I'm not working with a large amount of fuel. Having said that, since I've only used it once I probably should not have recommended it until I had more use with it. Being a new tractor and with the lack of snow thus far, it will probably be a while before I give it a fair amount of use. Hopefully it will continue to work as well as the 1st time.

Anyone need any of the small diesel storage tanks? I got a few lying around not being used.

I could use one. What have you got?
I'm thinking something like 20 25 or 30 Gallons.

I'm interested in the $99 10 gal gravity fed deal they have at Northern Tool. Someone else mentioned it above, but no one seems to have tried one. Being small, it is probably only useful to the folks that would otherwise just be using plastic cans like me (two yellow 5 gal ventless deals).

As an aside: my Kubota L4400 has terrible fuel hole placement. Its a real balancing act since its on the side of the tractor without a step. The FEL is in the way too but is good for resting the can on.

Anyway, some type of little platform or shelf to hold the 10 gal gravity feed might be an idea. Have it on a shelf nect to the barn or shed, etc. Lift it up there with the FEL. Just a thought. May give it a try.....if I ever get a shed. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

A funnel configured correctly should help with adding fuel to your tank. They come in all shapes and sizes.
Actually I have a similar problem and thanks to this thread it reminded me of my youth on the farm where we had to use a funnel or spill fuel all over our selves. Think I should take my own advice.

Those 275 gallon fuel oil tanks can be had for free or for cheap on Craigslist.org if you watch the ads for awhile. Right now there is one for $45 and another for $50 & was recently one for free on the Portland, OR Craigslist. People change to natural gas or other heating systems & have a tank to get rid of.

I just use 5 gal. cans & only have them fill them to 4 gallons so they won't be so heavey & so tippy. Use them for my airplane which requires getting on a ladder & for my tractor. My airplane usually takes about 10 gallons at a time, the tractor less. Not much of a hassle, really.
