Heating Oil, #2 and Diesel #2 equal in NY anyhow. The distributor told me today that for tractors #2 is best because the on road diesel has less lube ie. less sulfur.
Will the June 1st change affect the lubing quality of the #2 Heating Oil or Diesel #2?
Trying to figure this out as the guy is delivering a tank to the farm next week. I can get any fuel I want but as a farm, I get out of quite a bit of tax on the fuel...so #2 is it, right? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Yes, go with #2. That is diesel whether heating or fueling.
Sulfur does not lubricate, but removing it also removes some of the lubricating properties of the fuel from all that I've researched.
While most companies seem to state that this won't be a problem, there are plenty of additives on the market to help replace lubrication lost to the de-sulfuring processes.
Go without fear into the costly filling of your drum!

Yes, go with #2. That is diesel whether heating or fueling.
Sulfur does not lubricate, but removing it also removes some of the lubricating properties of the fuel from all that I've researched.

ULSD (S15) will all you will be able to purchase, dyed or undyed, come this fall. Low sulphur diesel (LSD or S500) may be available IF YOU CAN FIND IT. Only small refineries will be producing it in small quantities. If you live in California ULSD is all you will be able to purchase. This is all due to the new EPA regulations and federal law.
