To my fellow TBN members who think that pointing out unsafe "Safety Practices"is incorrect, moght I suggest "Russian Roulette"? Accidents can happen in the Flash of an eye. Sooner or later, someone will be hurt if the unsafe practices continue. It is just a matter of time. Then who is going to shed tears when that happens, and the Guilty Party wishes that they could go back in time.?Too late then. Do you understand my viewpoint?

......

PTO speed does seem like 2 much. What should it be for that type of work? Now that would be a good tip to learn from.

On an HST tractor you get the best response from the controls and tranny if you operate it at high engine speed. The braking effects when you let off the pedal is faster, too. Also, the machine is designed to cool itself by circulating the fluid through the coolers. If you run it at lower speed while doing hard work you may actually build up more heat in the unit than running it at a higher engine speed. At least, that's how it was put in my operators manual for my old IH2500b.

Well, I understand the need to operate at higher rpms for HST, but that makes it more difficult to get smooth, finely controlled loader/grapple movement. My normal procedure when I want fine control without jerkiness is to drop the rpms. That's just one reason gear tractors are better than HST. :cool2:

Looks like fun! I agree with others that the same could have been accomplished at 1/2 the rpms because none of that was close to a load on that tractor. Less fuel consumption and less noise would have been the result.
As for the other issue, I'm not gonna bash for that. Just be careful. I don't think the attention would've been directed to that as much if the rpms were lower. The atmosphere of the work zone would've seemed much more relaxed and less dangerous. Just my :2cents:

I once saw a 3 year old sitting on the tank of his father's Harley going down the road as if the kid was not on the tank. The kid had on a helmet and he looked like Darth Vader as the helmet was the same size as the kid. Many of us say what we say safety because we think to do so on behalf of the kid and to **** with the parent. To me, its as if you need to tell someone to stop smoking. Either you know its dangerous, you do not know its dangerous, you do not think its dangerous or you do not care if its dangerous. Its all up to the individual as there are all kinds of stories out there about what is unsafe. This kid is in the ward of his father...end of story. Beyond yourself or those you are in charge of, allow natural processes no matter what the outcome whether they be good, bad, joyous or heart wrenching. Basically, mind your own business as others mind their's.

I agree there are some safety issues in the video. But how times have changed. I remember as a kid driving my grandfathers tractor pulling a trailer through the cornfield as the adults hand pulled corn. I was JUST tall enough to reach the clutch pedal but I thought it was the greatest thing in the world to be able to help (and of course drive a powered machine).

And how many of you rode in the bed of a pickup on a Saturday afternoon as dad went to the lumber yard or hardware store? Thinking back, it's a wonder I'm still alive but it sure was fun!!

Yep.... most of us if not all of us, should be dead by today's safety standards. Lawyers and people with OCD...... Man, I tell ya.

I liked the video, I liked seeing the kid sit'n were he was watching, listening and feeling what is going on.

Thats how ALOT of us learned
