Oh boy what a fun time me and my son had at the county fair tonight.

Skys were a little threating when we left but figured we could get there gets a few rides in for the DS and some fair food for me. Got tto he fair and clouds were darkening, but we parked and started walking to the rides. Get about 50ft to the ride area and they close the rides due to pending weather. Decided to check out the arts building. Came out of that building and the sky was black and lighting was starting.

Found We decided to start back to the car before the rains came but didnt want to start walking in the open so we zigzag through the buildings trying to get to the other side. As we get to the goat barn the wind hits and just about take us off our feet. This is a metal barn building with flip out metal sides for venting. The door on the back of the barn just about blew off there hindges. A bunch of people were trying to keep it closed as others moved braces to hold the door closed. The windows were flying open and closed make a big clatter. People were junmping up trying to lock the windows closed. With all of this happeing the rain started and what a rain. We can hear "things hitting the doorsand walls., Door flying open, windows opening and then power goes out. Kids start screeming and animals start making noises and the lightning, thunder and rain in the metal building was amasing. Power comes back on and that help a little.

If all that wasnt enough The center roof isle is overwelmned with water and hundreds of gallons of water from the roof start pouring down on top of many of the goats and displays. Fans start to shortout and animals are being flooding. Me and a bunch of others started setting up temporary pens for the animals. Not all the animal owners were on site so we moved what we could o the animals. 20 to 30 goats moved into seperate holding pens and out of the water. One of the maint workers got the breakers off for the fans and we moved some of the personal possessions out of the pens.

Wind finally died down enough to get the doors open and to see what was happening. The "things" hitting the building were vendor tents and dibre from the fair grounds. A number of tents and displays damaged, Several concession stands were turned, Power lines around the grounds were down and live.

When the rain slowed we made a run for the trunk. Lighting was off in the distance and boy what a light show. Air the air, air to ground was amazing.

Never did get me any cotton candy....

Oh man! What a nightmare! I got visions of that scene in twister when they were all hunkered down at the drive in movie in that metal building.

It sounds to me that someone could have been seriously hurt with all the stuff flying around and the electricity/water mix. You were lucky I would say. Bummer about the cotton candy though.

Yikes! Where was the fair? We had a similar storm in South Bend, IN this afternoon. Very strong and very fast. Many huge power poles snapped and a sub station damaged that will take a week to repair. Glad you are OK, but sorry about the cotton candy /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

moss,
most likey the same storm front, Were in north central ohio.
The scene from twister was in my mind. I kept my Son near me and told him to lay on the ground if somthing happen to the building.

Several newscast about the fair grounds. They worked through the night to clean up the damage and repair the power. Lots of trees still down and a small subdivision was evacuated due to all the power lines being down. Red cross setup shelters

Oh no! I couldn't take no corn dogs! No cotton candy, deepfried twinkies, Philly cheese steaks, rib eye sandwiches, pizza and last but not least....

NO ELEPHANT EARS! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

We were fortunate that our fair had great weather. Our kids won some ribbons and a good time was had by all. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Yeah, I looked at the radar loop. The Ohio storms appeared to be happening at the same time as ours. Nobody hurt. Just lots of property damage in the area(not us, we got nothing but rain).
