Funny thing happened, well kinda funny

I've posted it before, but my old neighbor with whom I worked cutting and baling hay, had his old Farmall rip his double knit slacks off one evening. At least he still had his skivvies on, but they said it was embarrassing enough when he walked into the house to find another lady there visiting his wife.

I'm wondering why he had his pto engaged to just do drawbar activities???

My uncle was at the back of his property moving some old junk cars with his 8n. Just hooking a chain and dragging them behind an old house. As usual all he had on was sweatpants, tshirt and tennies. After several successes, he started hooking up another one and got his sweats caught in the pto. It grabbed ahold of them and started pulling them and him toward the tractor, which was idleing. He said all he thought to do was just brace himself. Well it tore his sweats and skivvies completly off of him. Didn't get him into the pto, luckily. So here is about 1/2 mile from home and all he has on is tshirt and tennies. He got back on the tractor and came home. Must of been some sight. Couldn't help but to snicker when he told me, but knowing it coulda been alot worse. He has been around tractors most of his life, 77, so goes to show ya. Can happen to anyone, and quickly!!!!

He told me how he was dragging the cars. And if I understand him right, he was using the drawbar on his 3pt. And when his raises it starts the pto. Is that the way the 8n works? If you ask me he was just trouble looking for a place to happen.

A little of the chicken/egg problem there.

Raising the lift does not start the pto. You must engage the pto to run the belly pump to raise the lift.

Lifting and dragging heavy loads from the 3pt is dangerous if not done correctly and using the appropriate drawbar stays.. etc.

That's why the 8n has the capability to accept a swinging drawbar to be use din conjunction with the 3pt drawbar....

wow, when I think about how much force it took to rip those sweats off, I wonder how somebody could be strong enough to hold themselves against the force.

I saw a fellow in his late teens here in my office. It was before I knew anything about tractors. But he got his blue jeans caught in either the PTO or a PTO shaft. I don't know any details, but his momma, who came with him to the office, said he 'went all the way around' at least once before the jeans tore away. He was beat all to heck. Cuts, bruises, abrasions. But no broken bones. No serious injuries. Very lucky kid. I would not have thought blue jeans would give way.....but then I got to thinking about what some of these young folks call blue jeans (or even some of my old jeans) that are full of holes in the knees, crotch and butt. Maybe his sorry blue jeans saved his life.

No swinging drawbar on his, so that is why the pto was engaged. To use the lift. He is a big fella, and rather stout. I wouldn't want to mess with him. And he is 25+ years my senior. Still works hard. Grew up working in a sawmill using mules. So guess that is where his toughness comes from.
