Future Kubota
Good morning. Name is Mike. Looking into my first ever tractor. Compact Kubota. My first of many stupid questions is, when looking into a tractor, if you come across one, lets say is 29HP, but it may be a B/BX/or L Model, what do the letters imply. Does it make the tractor specfically different from another model?

With Kubotas, the letters imply different tractor size classes:
BX = Subcompact, designed as a lawnmower first and a tractor second. Not much ground clearance but will probably mow the best.
B = Compact, designed as a tractor first but still capable as a lawnmower. Will mow, but may not have quite as good of a cut as a BX.
L = Tractor, not recommended for mowing unless you have a large lawn. Most require a 3 point or tow behind mower as they will not take a Mid Mount Mower (AKA MMM).

Well, a really simplified explaination...

The letters are the biggest difference in "model." They are completely different sized tractors.

Think of it as the letters designate the model and the numbers designate the options.

BX is smaller than a B
B is smaller than an L
L is smaller than an M

The numbers designate differences within that model
BX2360 is a 23hp BX with "60" being the latest/current model
BX2660 is a 26hp BX; so-on and so-forth.

The older model is the BX2x50.

Fill out your profile. And you will get more help based on your lot/acreage size, and your future plans.

ie 1 acre lot=BX
ie 5 acre lot=B
ie 5 acre lot wooded and plan on clearing it=B/L with Back-hoe
ie 25 acre lot = Forget Bx/B. Think about L or M series.

Sounds more complicated than our tax laws but with more info...these people will be able to answer better.

Go to the Kubota website and spends LOTS of time then go get some brochures of models in which you might be interested and then go sit on a bunch.

Also feel free to ask questions here anytime; lots of good members with a wealth of information/experience.

I hate to dispute another members post but I'll have to this one with the acres having anything to do with the designations. I've bought 10 Kubotas in the last 6 years. I've had/have BX's, B's, L and an F. I've never used acres to determine the purchase of any of them. The BX's are in their zone for a tractor that mows. The F is mostly for just mowing, the B has higher ground clearance and some increased traction and is a good mower, no matter how many acres but not quite as agile as a BX. L's are pretty good sized tractors and sit alot higher and mowing with them is better with a rear finish mower for home use and they have stronger Front end loader capacity and more traction.
Here is an old thread showing some differences between BX and B side by side.

I was in your shoes last week. I'm no longer a future owner but a current owner. I hauled off and bought a MX5100 with FEL, Ind Tires, and a Land pride Rotary Cutter. Have about 100 acres of land, most wooded. Needed a good tractor to bush hog about 15 acres of pastures and plots and to cut roadways. Put 6 hrs on it this weekend. Its pretty smooth. I don't think you can go wrong with a Kubota.
