I am considering a FX 255D can anyone tell me anything about them? Also what does the X mean, I have noticed F models but very few FX models. Any info on the HP PTO/Eng. would be helpfull

I know when you are talking about the F22 or FX26 that the plain "F" is a standard gear transmission and those with "FX" are equipped with the Powershift transmission. I would assume the "X" on the 255 designates the name.

You get to be a trail blazer! We are still building our information on the F series. So far they are looking very good. If Yanmar continues to use their old model ID system than a FX255D would be a 25 PTO hp tractor with 4wd and powershift. BTW, engine HP is up to 20% higher...but is a useless measurement unless one is interested in either advertising numbers or efficency calculations. I haven't figured out what the third (or sometimes fourth) number means. It could be fractional HP, or maybe some sort of change in the model run.

One more thing, you can bet that Roger will bend over backwards to help you figure out any unknown aspects of your FX model. He has spend numerious hours emailing me. Now if he'd just drive out to Maryland and help me select implements, and look over this central differencial I have, and the 4 wheel drive issue. These guys are super. brett w

I just picked up an FX175D with 297hr.for resale. It is a cool little tractor. My importer said it was the next generation after the 2 digit F series. It has a few extra gizmos but is basically like the F and FX we have seen in the past. I did notice the battery was Japanese and had the 1997 sticker pulled on it. It has a refined 3 point lift system a lot like the computerized lift but this one is manual. The shifting of the Power Shift is the smoothest I have seen. You can barely feel the shifts once you are moving. The only negative trait , so far would be that it has 3 speeds over 3 speeds. The 2nd range 3rd is too slow to mow and the 3rd range 1st is really a little fast. I did get my 4 acres mowed in record time on its test drive though.

I hope the FX255 has more room under the hood than the FX175 I just got. I went to adjust the valves and got a big surprise. You have to strip it down to the frame to get the valve cover off. The firewall has a section pushed out around the fuel filler. It will not allow the valve cover to come off. It is the first major design flaw I have caught. It is back running but not without more effort than I ever expected.
