I am in the process of rebuilding a FX28D engine and have this sitting on a stand. Has anyone ever taken the gearcase (timing) cover off of one before? I have all the bolts out and there appears to be a couple of dowel pins in the hydro pump area but I'm afraid to put much pressure on the cover because I'm thinking it's built out of unobtainium and this is a really nice tractor except for being run really hot several times.

Does anyone have experience with this before I build be a puller and possibly wreck everything? Thanks for any help....

Never laid eyes on your 4 cylinder or know anything for fact about it. I would however have an opinion as most folks expect. Could it be the gasket has it stuck? Have you taken everything off the front of the cover assuring nothing there holding it? Also, gasket stuck or not, try using a thin blade that is capable of driving between the cover and block. Use this is the area on the dowel pins if you know where they are.
