Eddie, I can't thank you enough for this thread! Just now when I took my dog out to go baffroom, as I've taught her, I checked her stool, lo and behold this jerk was there: She was just at vet two weeks ago for 6 month checkup, no problems he said. Tomorrow morning soon as I can, we're at her doctor! The jerk is that little white thing on the stick.

My wife caught this picture yesterday that we really like and I wanted to share.

That's a small worm of some kind. And, she was just at vet two weeks ago, tested as usual, heart worm shot, etc. Her 6 month check up. The worm is that little white thing on end of stick.

Does it look like a little piece of rice? My wife thinks it's a tape worm and wonders if you have cats? If your dog got into cat poo, then that would explain the tape worm.

Okay, just got back from doctor, whew, it was just tapeworm from flea, probably got from squirrel. And, the hind leg weakness is arthritis. I still had her (vet) do a tick disease test just to ease me mind. Preliminary report is all is good, vet will call back this week from sent away lab test, but she is certain the hind leg weakness is from acute arthritis. She gave me pills for tapeworm (nasty buzzards) and arthritis pain, which I already gave! Whew, whew, whew!!! Thanks again for this warning though, Eddie!!

Just found tapeworms in our new rescue. Shelter SAID they tested for heartworms and tape/roundworms and she was negative - wrong. So she's had a dose of wormer AND will go to our vet tomorrow to be checked out good. Due to this thread, we'll also start her on tick whatever tick prevention regime they recommend for our area. It pays to pay attention to that poop!
