Does any one out there have experience with the New Holland Galaxy Turfs? I have R4's right now and really am not happy with them for a couple of reasons. I asked my dealer about trading for the turf's which he said he would do without any cost to me even after one year. I originally wanted turf's but he talked me into the R4's. Anyway I tried the turfs and get the same results as the R4's as far as leaving ruts in my grass and when mowing they lay the grass down so the mower doesn't mow it. The next day I have taller grass where the front wheels went. Anyway I can go to the Galaxy turfs which are much wider but then I am not allowed to use my loader according to my dealer. Does anyone have the Galaxy along with a loader? The dealer for the Galaxy turfs does want $900.00 more for them.

Murph,

Have you tried to get higher lift blades for your Mower? That might help solve the problem.

Can't help you with the Galaxy's.

Murph, I had considered turfs for my tractor, but the dealer mentioned the likelyhood of flats was considerable for what I wanted to do. I mentioned the new style Galaxy turfs available on the JD 110, basically a R4 with a R3 tread. That would have been great. The price difference was huge though, I opted for R4's and as with my L48, have been quite happy with them. I am of course, in a much drier climate then you. Turfs, especially the Galaxys would do well on the turf, but for loader work I should think that the load ability and their tuffness would be a consideration. On many tractors, a MMM is not able to fit with Galaxys. The new Galaxy R3's are 17.5L 24's and 10 x 16.5's rear/front respectively.

Yes I have looked all over the web for higher lift blades? Can't seem to find any and my dealer says he can't get them either.

Kind of makin a double post here with answers for hazmat and then Rat,

Rat, the soil I have is what is called a silt loam, it is not a clay but more of a sand. I had to sod it because of the hills. You can pour a gallon of water on it and when the water runs down the hill it takes the soil with it. I just thought if I had a wider tire I wouldn't leave the indentations.

Right now we have not had any rain in three weeks so even when it is very dry I have trouble especially with knocking down the grass under the front tires. The following day the grass raises back up and I have two 6" wide trails that looks like the mower missed

I didnt think you could use a MMM with Galaxies because it hits the tires when you turn or something to that effect and I believe instead of having 2, 6 inch wide taller grass lines you would end up with 2 wider lines of grass. I would not get the galaxies if I were you. I have silt loam here too but mine is a silty clay type and your is silty sand from what you describe but I have never noticed any problems with wheel marks in the grass and I have RMM with R4 tires. I have 4 tires that knock the grass over before the mower gets it but still havent noticed grass (tire) lines. Maybe you are cutting the grass too high? The lower the better for not leaving the grass bent over. The high lift blades i suppose would help if you can find them. I would skip the Galaxies and I dont think you will gain anything by getting turfs instead of R4 either. Thats just my opinion!

ROTO.

I am mowing at the 3" level. I have tried the 2.5" which I think is too short and also I get a lot of scalping with it. The other thing right now is it is way too dry to mow that low.

If the Galaxies won't allow my MMM to be attached then your right they won't do me any good.

I have the Galaxy Turfs and have no problem using my 72 inch 914 MMM also no problem with r/r. I dont use a loader on this tractor. Also have super steer if that makes a diff.
