Gallbladder removal

My wife and a good friend both had the surgery. Recently.
The surgery was uneventful . Both took the week for recovery.
Both have issues with bowels when eating greasy food

No personal experience, but the greasy food problem is the only drawback I ever heard about from friends and relatives who have had their gall bladders removed.

Wife and I both have had it done, and the preceding testimonials pretty much hit the nail on the head. It's not a piece of cake, but not a federal case either. I wouldn't get too concerned about it, but do expect some discomfort the first day and night.

Mine came out November last year. They had to go old school full on slice and dice. Had done on a Tuesday afternoon was home Thursday and took no pain meds. Biggest issue is aftereffects of eating certain foods now that its out.

I had a guy worked for me once that had his gall bladder out and had to run to the bathroom occasionally. He said his doctor told him his body would adjust and get back to normal after a while. I asked him how long it had been since the surgery and he said "Ten years". My daughter had it done while in high school and is not 34 and still not totally adjusted. As for recovery time, it is not much due to the small opening needed now to do the laparoscopy.

anyone had this surgery? How was the surgery and the recovery? Good bad ugly or uneventful?

My wife had it done. I don't recall a single bit of pain. I could have gone to work that afternoon. Oh, she whined about her pain & needing me to stick around & help her out. Other than that I felt fine.:D

Good one.

My son had his out about 10 years ago maybe longer. It was not laproscopy. it tooke at least 48 hours for the pain to go away.

Is the Laproscope bucket mounted or hitch mounted? Hydraulic or PTO powered?

I don't think I've every seen one on a tractor before.

Only thing I had trouble with after mine came out was salads. If I ate the salad at a restaurant I better be near a bathroom in 45 minutes to an hour. According to what the surgeon told me, after a few years a fold in your stomach will develop into something like a new gall bladder. Won't work as well as the original but the symptoms of not having one will go away.

He also kept me off work for a month. Said he paid $40,000 a month on malpractice insurance and had never been sued. He wasn't going to get sued by me for being too stupid to stay at home and not go to work. If I had a desk job it would have been different. Also called me an idiot for going on in to work after being told I needed to find a surgeon and get it removed. Was told that on a Wednesday. I was going to wait until after my daughter played in a golf tournament the next Monday. Gall bladder didn't want to wait. So I had a BAD attack at work on the Friday before the tournament.

Anyway, stay away from salads for a while. Or be near a bathroom when you eat one.

My daughter in law had hers out in 1995 and has had the 'trots' ever since. It doesn't matter what she eats it goes right through her, goes in solid and comes out violently liquid.

Had mine removed in 2011, surgery not that bad (laparoscopic) but gallbladder controls bile which for some people like me is a problem with eating certain foods. The sudden dumping of bile into your system can cause problems (diarrhea, etc.), doctor put me on Questran Light which causes bile to stick together and not cause a problem. This has worked well for me just FYI if anyone encounters same problem.
