Thomas,

How do you want to attach it to the four wheeler, front or back mount? Somewhere around here I had a brochure for front mount, let me know. Rear mounts with their own motor, trailering types are available around here at TSC.

Re: Gang Mowers..Jim

Jim,
This is what my father has for idea.
He mowes about 4 arces of lawn around the house and barn plus trims the woods with his 44" cut Wheel Horse tractor, and it takes to long and a chore.
His farm tractor way to big to be of a use and the riding mower way to small. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif
I would like to purchase something like a finish mower that has its own engine and the deck about 5 foot wide that his 4 wheeler can pull for his birthday.
I did stop at the ATV dealer but they don't carry mower units for there no demand. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Jim thank you for your help also the information. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Re: Gang Mowers...EddieW.

I mowed my pasture Sunday with 79 degree tempatures. Just a great day to drive a tractor. Another couple of weeks and that will be over but I am enjoying it while I have it.

If what you are looking for is a 5' pull behind finish mower with it's own engine, then here are some places to check:
www.northern-online.com
www.tractorsupplyco.com (they have stores in most midwestern and eastern states and their web site won't have everything the stores have)
Quality Farm and Fleet stores
Big Blue stores (only local to southern Indiana I think)
The prices I saw were around $1300. Let me warn you that they aren't very maneuverable, but they would work ok in open areas.
Good luck!

Yeah, and if the mower starts gaining on you, be sure to speed up. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I usually hear the term "gang" mower used interchangably with the term "reel" mowers. I have one that has a 10 foot wide cutting path. It consists of 7 individual reel mowers that are "ganged" together. They work just like the old fashioned manual "reel" lawn mowers; as the mower is pulled the wheels turn the mower's reels. Under limited conditions, this system works wonderful. However, the grass can't get too tall, can't have any moisture, and any debris (small sticks or clumps of grass) will jam the reels. My Sears 12.5 hp riding lawn mower can pull it on level ground, but I have to fold up two of the 7 mowers in order for it not to strain. My B7100 can pull it anywhere I dare take it. Since its use has been so limited for me, I have regretted buying it.

If you are looking for a motorized pull-type finish mower, TSC has a 44" ($895?)and a 60" model ($1349?) that are made by "Swisher". Northern Tools also sells this brand mower. I believe that they recommend a 16 or 18 hp garden tractor to pull it. I don't believe any ATV will have any problem pulling it. They also sell heavier duty pull-type "brush mowers".

Neither of the pull-type mowers are very maneuverable. The Swisher mowers can be offset (to the left or right) so that you can mow with a mid-mower and the pull-mower at the same time.

Thomas, I bought a Polaris 11.5 hp pull behind a couple of months a go..It's powered by techumsa..so far it has done quite well. I have been using it behind my 18 hp scott. With 46" deck.the pull behind is also 46" and it has an offset cabability...allowing a 6"over lap give or take a couple of inches and gives me about an 80" cut..I have used it on the top half of my 8 acres with the scott and on the bottom with my 4wheeler.I cut stuff 10" with out bogging at 5mph..ANd it only has a max hight of 4.5"...I plan to put bigger wheels on it to raise it a couple more inches..and hang some heavy rubber shielding on the front and sides..I do like the fact that it is rear discharge..I looked at one mad by bush'm hog it was smaller in cut and hp but was actually a small hog. the polaris is actually a three blade finish mower with a pretty nice cut..If you are interested go to polaris.com they carry all kinds of four wheeler attachments I haven't looked in a while...I mention the front mount since some mentioned monuverability.. BTW I paid $1100 with tax. the hog was $1200+....Good luck..

Careful on that Polaris branded stuff. All those finish and rough cut mowers are actually Swishers. I own a swisher and can tell you that these things will fall apart around you after about 40 or 50 hours use. Weak spindles and the way the pulley's are attached is pathetic. I replaced 5 spindles before the one year warranty ran out. That's right.... replaced two spindles TWICE and the other one once. The frame and deck are great but the mechanics inside are really weak. However, I still love this and wish I just had one that would stay together. Very usable and a great tool.

I have seen the mower for the four wheeler that your inquiring about. The one I saw was made by Bushhog.
I built one very similiar to it, but a little wider back in the nineties. According to the electrician that bought it off my workbench before I even finished it, (and paid me to finish it) it really worked great.
The one I built was 8 foot wide.
