Gannon box blade 4x4hxd value? 72"

Bio, thanks. Unfortunately I think it's to much for my dk40. But I couldn't pass it up.

While you may not be able to use it to it's full potential you should be able to use it for the most part. My 4520 cab weighs about 5500lbs and my box blade is similar to yours. When ripping with the points fully extended I could use a larger tractor but for most of the work grading the lighter tractor does a good job. If you have a fel on the DK40 you should be okay but ripping deep will be slow.

That 84" Gannon probably weighs 1200 - 1250 pounds. If nothing else, you've now got a heckuva ballast box. :D

I'm sure you can use it for light grading, but heavy grading will likely stop you dead in your tracks. And it will stick out past your rear tires, so be careful. If you hang something with it, the Gannon won't be the part that gives.

The great thing is that you can always sell it and make a nice healthy profit on it. If you bought one brand new, it would probably be close to $4,000. Good buy!

Try it, you may like it. Won't know without trying. Great purchase, sure wish deals and just the implements were available like that around here.

The thing is while the large box blade may be more capable than the tractor he can still do everything with this box blade he could do with a lighter model. So really there would not be an advantage to selling or trading for a smaller lighter box blade. Most of the time he will be able to pull it well enough, and if he loses traction he can raise the box slightly to keep moving forward.

Filling the tires with heavy RimGuard would help a lot.

It looks like there is a lever that locks the ripper in place when there down, does that mean you shouldn't have the half or 3/4 of the way down? I understand the cylinder would be doing the work

The mechanism locks the rippers when down so the cylinder isn't taking the load.

I think you'll be surprised what u can do with it. Mine is a 78" and I've never had any issue or felt even close to maxed out.

The ripper is meant to be used fully deployed. On mine, there are two depths at which the teeth can be set for shallow or deep digging. They are held in place with a sturdy spring clip.

Edit: I forgot to add to those who suggest that you try it. I think it'll do well for you for most tasks. You won't be able to fill the box and keep going, but I'd think you can use it for many other tasks. And did I mention you stole it? :)

As mentioned by others, try it to see if it works for you. Like jenkinsph, I have a heavy 84" box scraper on my 5740 and it works great as long as I use it properly. If used aggressively, it will anchor the 5740 and 8540 in their tracks, jut use your 3PH and hydraulic cylinders to control how much of a bite you take.

I already have one, but I'd jump all over another one for what you paid.

Awesome find, I'm looking for one also it seems they are a rare find in New England. My dealer has a Frontier 72" hydraulic box that I may end up settling for since the need is there but my luck find one is flat. Let us know how it works out for you on your tractor.

Just as a point of reference, here's a CL ad for one in northeast Texas with manual up/down lever operated ripper bar for more money. This one will probably sell for close to the asking price and is not in nearly as good condition as the one Illini22 got. Shows what a good deal he got.
