Garage door opener installation

As noted, the weight of the door prevents casual attempts to lift, but the 8500 opener also comes with an electric deadbolt lock that mounts to the track and slides a pin through. It is to be placed just above a wheel, so that the door can't roll up.

This is what mine looks like. Mine is mid way down the side track.

My son got my 12x12 over head door springs wound back up, 9 full turns on both is what it took, he was here last year when people (who I would never recommend to a friend) install the door and he remembered 9 turns. Also the Travel Module on the LiftMaster 8500 is broke, probably was the main problem to begin with, and their sending a new one., by next weekend my son should have the LiftMaster working. I guess I shouldn't have messed with the springs at all, that will teach me not to mess with things above my pay grade.

That's good your door is back to working correctly. Does the 8500 have a disconnect so that the door can be manually raised in case of a power outage? I'm considering one and looked on their website but couldn't find anything.

They installed one where I used to work and it had a release handle on it to let you manually lift it.

Yep, a pull rope and handle hanging from the opener disengages the gears.

Yes the LiftMaster 8500 has a disconnect rope so the door can be lifted and lowered by hand, I think all door openers has that option.

I have 2 in my garage. Just make sure they don't ever hang up on the way down or you can get the cables really tangled. Overall I like them. bought them from Amazon at different times, so they look a little different from each other.

OK, with all the liftmaster smarty pants here. Has anyone here got their operners to be controlled and monitored by their smart phone? I want to do it but I don't know what I need.
