/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifPete, can you post a picture of that? That's just the opposite of what my garage doors had. The springs were stretched out when the door was closed, so the springs helped to lift the door when you started to open it, and when it was opened all the way, no tension on the springs. So I can't quite picture how yours works. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif )</font>

Yup Bird, you were absolutely correct. Here's a shot. The left hand spring goes to the open door; the right hand spring goes to the closed door out of the photo to the right.

OK, Pete, you might be able to adjust the cables, like GaryM described, or you might simply need new springs. Those appear to me to be installed correctly, but the one on the open door appears to be a little too slack. Of course you also want to be sure you adjust the tension to be the same on both sides of the door. I'm wondering if it's possible that your current problem could be related to having different tension on opposite sides of the door now.

Good point, and with springs that old I still think replacing them is a safer option. I'll be sure to tension them evenly. Thanks all! pb

Does anybody have these doors with the exclusive design wall mount openers?

If you do how do you like them?

Seems like a whole lot better system to me.

I don't have that, but I use Wayne/Dalton doors on new construction. I have a guy that installs the doors for me, but for some reason, he's never mentioned these to me. Looks a lot nicer than all than junk hanging from the cieling tho. I'll have to ask my guy the next time he puts in some doors for me. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

hello i also use a garage door installer that installs Wayne/Dalton doors and i had asked him a couple months ago if i could use the new type wall mounted openers and he said that he didnt recomend thembecasue they were having major proplems with them. So i have been having him installl the regular style ones and told him to let me know when they become more reliable

jamieac; They sound very attractive though. Did he say what the "major" problems were? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

   / Garage door question #28
He didnt get into great detail, I dont think they were "major" proplems per say just that they were all having "some" proplems making them a big pain in the butt for him to have to keep going back and playing with them .

No time to read the whole thread. This has probably been answered. I had the same thing happen. The spring was broke (less obvious on the torsion spring doors. $100 and someone else came and fixed it for me. Great bargan. Good luck!

rOGuE -- Well, the springs were 40 years old and needed replacing, and while that made the door considerably easier to lift manually, it didn't solve the opener problem. So with my wife pressing the button I climbed up there for a closer look.

The tension on one side of the sprocket was way tighter than the other. I noticed the trolley was impacting the limit bolt, instead of stopping just short of it. So I detensioned everything, adjusted the limit settings, restored the proper tension and it now works like a charm!

Thanks for all the suggestions! Pete
