I put a 7' door in my shed and folded and unfolded to ROP everytime. What a pain!! Then put a canopy on the ROP, so folding was no longer a practicle option. Put in an 8' door and that works fine, but I had to pay for a door twice. Put in a door that will allow access without folding the ROP, you won't be sorry.

should have just added another 18" section and it would have been 8'6" instead. The tracks can be extended also to accommodate the additional section. Would have saved you a bundle..... That is if you have the additional room for the extra 6". I raised my 7' door to a 10' to accommodate my truck and I still can't get it into the garage... too much junk in the way!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

We built a 24 X 36 pole barn with a 14 foot ceiling height. The overhead doors are 10 high so there is never a problem with the ROPS. I have never regretted spending the extra money on the construction and the tractor stays high and dry.

I have an old post and beam construction barn I store my JD in and the salesguy advised me to get the folding ROPS when I ordered it. The barn was originally fitted with a pair of sliding doors eight feet wide and I wanted to have a little more side room for my pickup with the trailering mirrors.

I moved one post over a foot and fitted a overhead garage door nine feet wide by seven feet high. It would have been my preference to raise the header another foot but on a 100 year old barn that means the header beam is a solid oak 8X8 and to raise it would have required moving the second floor joists up. My JD misses clearing the open door by about 7 inches with the ROPS up and even if the standard one has been installed I would still be in trouble as the barn floor is higher than the pad out front. Wise move to think about the door height before building.

I just went through this same exercise a week ago. Have a similar size tractor (JD 4410), and was planning to go with an 8' door (the specs said that with the ROPS up it was about 7'6"). But I wanted to be sure and decided to measure it, and realized that I had installed a canopy (which I really like, especially if the sun is hot or it rains). The canopy added about 5" to it, so I was really marginal. So decided to go with a 8' 6" height.

Garage door come in 18" and 21" increments..... you can make the door anything you want by stacking the panels to get the desired hight.

Built a garage 2 years ago for my stuff. That includes a NH 1720. Put in a 8 foot door because my ROP's is one piece construction. I built a 24x28 garage and went with a 16 ft. wide door. Now thats nice too!! Angle in any way you want.
Take care

Remember to account for possible lights attached to the ROPS top...

Side hinged doors can be used too... make any height needed...

Stovepipe, build your shed with a door high enough to just drive in. In the next 10 years, you only need to forget _once_ and will spend more money in repairs than what you save today.

That totally ignores the issue of all the time to fold & unfold the rops week after week.

What if you get a different tractor or a backhoe or a snowblower (spout is much higher than we think!) or you want to carry something into your shed with a loader or carry-all?

You will often, many times over, regret building that shed door less than 8.5'. This requires a 10' wall most of the time.

I would do anything I could to make that shed tall enough. Do it right the first time. (And, whatever square footage you make the shed, it will be too small of a shed in 12 months.... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ) But if you make the door high enough, at least it will be useable. Out here on the farms, we have many sheds that would be good, but are unuseable because the doors are too small to get anything into - our $$$ equipment has to sit outside.

Please don't make that mistake. It is a costly one.

an excellent point....... with low clearance doors, you only need 12" additional to the hight of the door to make things work. Most modern doors use torsion springs today to work, which makes it even better....
