Garage heating

I have a LP fires forced air unit. It is basically just a box that hangs in the corner. Its pretty cheap, I also keep it about 40 or 45 degrees and bump it up to 60 when I'm working in it. It heats the place up in 10 minutes and its a 28x30 shop.
We have an LP vented convection wall furnace in our basement with thermopile so when electric fails because of ice, snow and wind storms we can still heat the whole house comfortably. Another benefit, can back up to it pretending it is an old wood stove without cutting wood. Wouldn't be without one.

I have my pump pressure tank in my garage. When it gets cold enough to be in danger of freezing I have a 250 watt infrared heat lamp I put about 3 feet from the pipes. I don't want to waste money heating the whole building to protect a tiny area.

I have a 100k btu oil furnace to warm it up if I want to work out there. My standby generator is hooked to the same diesel tank.

We pay about 5.7 cents a Killowatt hour and when you go over your "daily limit" (which is 30kw) then it's around 8.6c/kwh until 50kw a day.
But if you go over 50kw on top of the 8c you pay an additional 6 which means 14-15c/kw/h in the winter.. or around 13c in the summer when you go over.

Numbers pulled from the hydro quebec website.

I think most states it's around 12c and up if I'm not mistaken

That is cheap! My electrical CO-OP lets me pay 15.6 cents per kilowatt, but propane this year is $1.11 per gallon.
