garden fence... any suggestions?

I just did this on a 60x60 or so area. It was ALOT of work! And expensive.
I used round treated posts. 3 10' gates and 1 4' gate. With a 1x6 on the very bottom to make weed eating easier and to create a burmuda barrier.
If I did it again, I'd concreate not only the corner post, but the next to the last post as well.
I used non-climable horse fence. (not cheap)
While it was expenive, over-bilt, and alot of work, I like it, and would likely build it the same if I had to do over again. If I didn't like the wood post "look", I'd use old pipe for the corners and t-post for the middle. Easier, corner posts don't want to move. Don't have to build wire-corners etc.. No post holes for the middle.. etc.

In other words, if your going for looks as well, means more work??? For just functionality, metel all the way.. Either way is expensive, so the amount of work, durability is the remaining issue..

For deer and rabbits, i use electric fence. I like the baygard poly fence. Cuts easily and doesnt stretch too much.

For posts, i get the round pressure treated. Thry're pretty rough, but they serve the purpose well. I paid ~$5 per post this year and have around a dozen.

I used to have a mix of pressure treat poles (on the corners) and steel rods (between the corners), but this year i removed the steel (rusting issues) and replaced with wood.

I have 3 strands of fence. one at ~6" above the ground, one at 12" and the last one around 36".

We have lots of deer and rabbits, and since i put up the fence (4 yr ago) ive only seen 2-3 rabbits in the garden and no deer.

I used rabbit guard on the bottom and chicken wire on the top to keep the deer out. I use landscape timbers which the box stores sell for 1.97 from time to time. I go down and buy 40 at a time and use them all over the place. I burried the rabbit guard a bit and used some galvinzed tent stakes to hold it down every 16'. I put gravel around the posts and tamped as i was filling. I have found that this works great and the post do last.

I sure am glad no two people here handle it the same way. Reminds me we're all individuals and not part of the galactic swarm..

hehe
