So is it true that they will cause blisters???

Gray/silver, brown, and striped blister beetles will definitely cause blisters if you accidently crush them. They make big clear blisters that almost look like 2nd degree burns. I've only managed to crush one and get blisters, but if they get into hay, they can kill horses that eat the hay. They are important to keep around because they control grasshoppers, but they are certainly a pest and very dangerous for horses. It is suggested that hay with infestation be cut with a sickle bar cutter instead of a moco so the beetles can escape and not get crushed.

The assassin beetle has a sharp snout and give you a painful prick if you mess with them or they think you are a big bug.

Made a simple sauce with some garlic, olive oil, Italian red pepper, fresh basil and about two dozen or so small fresh vine ripened roma tomatoes. Let it cook for about 30 minutes and put it over linguini.. topped with parmigian cheese and some more fresh basil. It was pretty good. I also picked a bunch of lettuce and some baby carrots. I cut the carrots into slivers and mixed them in with lettuce and some shredded cabbage.

The beets are coming on strong as well as the carrots and peppers. I talked DW into making a pot of her delicious beet soup early next week.

The zucchini is done already. Only got a couple. I think it was the weather. I'm going to turn over that spot today and try a replant. It's probably too late but I was really looking forward to some zucchini parmigiana.

I put in way too much kale. I got a kale jungle out there. Will remember that.

The tomatoes are enormous. Plants are about seven feet tall and the tomatoes are the size of grapefruit. The romas got mixed up with rutgers at the nursery apparently though and I got allot more rutgers than I intended.

I planted some redskin potatoes in mid-June and they're coming around but not in any big way. Not sure what I'll get at this point.

Almost no raspberries or cherries this year .. I've got allot of small apples coming along though.

If I have time today I'm going to replant some lettuce.

Caught this in the Times yesterday.. http://video.nytimes.com/video/2011/07/29/fashion/100000000773792/anchovy-arugula-pasta.html
