The best electric deer fence is 4 wires on posts that slant at 45-50 degrees toward the deer, away from the garden. One wire about 6" up from the ground ( good for the raccoon too); the second one 2' up, the 3rd one 4' and the fifth one about 6' with loops hanging down 15' or so. You got to spray Round-Up so the low wires don't get weed-grounded.
I tried a piercing whistle tied to a motion detector- the wind blows the corn and falsely set it off. A radio- after a while they get use to everything, including a strobe light. I see a water sprinkler set-up but I suspect the motion detector has the same problem with waveing delectable plants. The parts of the country that have Lyme disease ( New England. WI, MN) have serious references re deer abatement. They are known as rats with hooves. There has never been more deer in WI as now and they are a real problem re auto accidents and foraging certain crops and hardwoods thus preventing the establishment of desirable forests. I root for the wolf's comeback. Ten day of hunting as a population control manuever is a joke.
