Here is one more thing to think about, while we are worrying about the chemicals in Chinese food:
In the US, arsenic is not regulated. It is not considered a drug, but rather an element. Yes, it is an element, I am aware of that. As such, USDA and FDA do not regulate it. Why is that important? Because most of the chicken you eat, is loaded with arsenic. It is used to increase weight gain in the chickens, as anti-biotics are in cattle. Most of the chicken in the US (as well as the rice, for a different reason) is LOADED with more arsenic than is considered "safe". Pilgrim's Pride never used it, but now they are just called Pilgrim's, since Bo died, so no telling how long they will be safe. Tyson, and some of the others, such as Trader Joe's can be the worst at having high arsenic loads. I would love to see them have to put on the label that they do not feed arsenic or growth enhancing items to their chickens.
Our doctors want us to eat chicken and fish. Honestly, the arsenic in chicken, and the mercury in fish scares the cr*p out of me. Has anyone noticed the rise in childhood diseases, including autism lately? And then we compound the heavy metals in food, by giving the kids vaccines that are now almost limitless. The FDA and health departments state that there is "NO safe level of mercury. However, the vaccines are preserved with mercury. So, we add more heavy metals to our young (and elderly). In Texas, one of Perry's largest contributor is Merck (Merial) pharmaceuticals. Is it any wonder kids are supposed to get all of that companies vaccinations, before attending schools? Has anyone really studied the side effects of Guardasil? They aren't pretty. And yet, parents subject their children to it blindly, because a politician(s) mandated it, so doctors administer it.
As far as the food coming out of China, I say avoid it at all costs. The melamine in pet food, baby formula and wheat flour in 2007 should have taught everyone that lesson. But look in the stores and you will find pet treats made in China, and people still BUY them. :mur:
One other thing, just because a food says Made in USA, it can be from non-USA ingredients. Made in USA, just means it was processed and packaged here. If you look at a bag of pet food, you find a list of vitamins and minerals added in the ingredient lists. Want to guess where those ingredients come from? Yep, China! So, if the food was really good, it wouldn't need those vitamins and minerals added, but since it is deficient, they add them, and source them from China.
And all of this before we even get into GMO, etc.
Having healthy food means growing your own, or knowing someone locally where you can buy organic.
Sorry, this topic hits home to me in many ways, and because of those ways, I'll speak my mind about it, and try to share the truth as I research it and learn it.
