Hey,
We just gave our old gas grill to the local explorers(older boy scouts) and now we need a new grill. So what is a good gas grill for under $1000?
Thanks,
Nathaniel

Just my humble opinion, but it's an opinion shared by many. I've had a webber gas grill for years now, and wouldn't change.

I've got one from a company called Great Outdoors. It's cast aluminum with a cast brass burner, so there's almost nothing on it that can rust. It carries a very long warranty (I can't find the book right now), something like 20 years for everything and 75 years for the burner. It's going to be a long time before the burner rusts out. That's what I got sick of changing all the time so the brass burner on this one caught my eye. Maybe the best part of all is that it's made in Joplin, Missouri. I paid around $400 for it and it was the floor sample, and when I got it home the rocks were missing. I went back to the store (Lowe's) but they didn't know where they might be, so I called the manufacurer and they sent out new ones at their expense, even though Lowe's lost them.

It isn't an extremely large grill compared to some that I looked at, such as the Aussie, but it's plenty big for grilling for our family of five.

I have to look into one of those. I have a summer house on Cape Cod, and the salt air eats up the burners after about 2 years. You say you got it at Lowes? Do they have more then one model? Thanks.

Yeah, they do. They have a website, here where you can look at them.

edit: What the hell am I doing wrong with that link?

I bought a Weber grill last summer for about $450 at Home Depot and I am extremely satisfied with it. Depending on where you purchase one it will either have Cast Iron grates or Porcelain covered steel. I prefer the Cast Iron.

I don't know why but the food actually tastes better than the old grill we had. Also, the temperature uniformity on the grill is incredible. I can place burgers in the middle or on the outside edge of the grate and they cook at the same rate. The old grill we had would cook the stuff in the middle of the grill much faster.

I would recommend a Weber to anyone. They have something like a 10 year warranty.

Correction for my first post: I had the warranty all backwards. It's 25 years on the cast brass burner, 75 years on cast aluminum stuff.

As to whether the company will be around in 75 years is anybody's guess; it probably will be unless they hire Ken Lay to run it. I hear he's out of work. At any rate, I won't be around to find out.

The best deal I've seen is at Sam's Club. $599. get you all stainless, w/rotisserie/burner, stainless grill, large side burner, electronic tank scale, the list really goes on.

I'll second the Weber gas grills. We've had the stainless steel one for about five years now and it still looks and performs like brand new. For the price I don't think you can beat them.

Ditto for the Weber! I have had mine for 2 1/2 years, use it 2 - 3 times a week and it is still like new. I especially like the flavorizer bars - no mess and flare ups from lava rock. I also have the steel grates.
