I've heard of clean tanks blowing! Air pocket of fumes, one guy on here blowed his fingers off!

Need to leave the cap off.

An even better way is keeping a steady flow of high volume low pressure air through it to blow away any "pockets" of fumes.

FILL IT UP COMPLETELY with soapy water. I have soldered Gravely tanks many times using that method. We are talking just a small tank you can pick up and inspect, not a large automotive tank. Fill it up and then shake it around, dump it out and let it dry out. If you pick it up and stick your nose in there and it doesn't smell like gas, you will be good to go.

My 10.5 hp Briggs on the wood splitter was a target of some varmint and got chewed on. The fuel tank had a dime sized hole in it. I tried my best with fuel safe epoxy and it lasted about 2 years. I then removed the tank, washed it out with soap, and welded it up with a soldering gun. I used strips cut from oil jugs as my filler rod. It worked great and has held up for about 4 years. A new tank would have been about $80.

I used JB Weld many years ago to fix a leaking crack in the plastic fuel (diesel) tank on my B7100, only because the dealer did not have a new tank in stock and I didn't want to wait. It lasted a year before it started to leak again.
