Not sure. When i stuck a screwdriver in it to check the fluid level, it had some fluid on the very tip of it, definitely well below the "low" mark. Guessing there is about 7 ounces missing out of the can. (He left me the can) . Anything below minimum or low must be bad. been run that way for .5 hours. Cant be good any way i look at it. Guessing that there must have been some fluid in there and they didnt top it off.
They called at 8 am, saying they're on the way. At least they do as they said....going to drive into the dealership after they pick it up and will see what they are willing to do, as far as extended WARR. goes. If not, i'll come home with the cheque and look at kubotas. Thats the only dealer that had a 540 in stock. All others have a 2 week wait and i need to have a mower now. Sold the one i had.

Not sure what the 5 series holds, but I think my bigger units hold over a gallon. Was it 1.6 gallons? Been a while.

Essentially if they only added 7 oz that's just a drop in the bucket so to speak. There is always an excess volume in reserve for heat sink/cooling capacity. If this was a small series with a little "non serviceable" hydro I'd be more concerned.

That .5hrs is starting, idling, attaching deck, moving, loading, etc. Not much work performed.

Seven ounces low on fluid won't hurt anything in this case. While I agree that this should have been checked out better I wouldn't get overly upset. Having employees can be a nightmare and the owner gets blamed for all of the screw ups.

I also wouldn't be to concerned over that small an amount.

Went to the dealer and ended up speaking with a sales guy. He wasn't concerned about it whatsoever. Didn't like his attitude and asked for my cheque back. Left the dealer...drove 40 miles to another deer dealer i don't care for. (past experiences) Nothing on the lot that interested me and went to see the Kubota dealer i bought my last 2 tractors. Had good luck with the dealer and the equipment in the past. Bought a GR2120. Diesel and direct drive to deck and blower....ran real smooth and my wife loved it. Same price as the 540. I'm happy. Guess there wont be any Deer's for me.

it is your green that's buying it
I think that most the high end tractors and mowers are pretty much the same
it's all in the dealerships and how they treat you

WOW what a turn in events.Good luck with your new Kubota.I had a 2008 Kubota diesel ZTR pro model 326 that was a great machine before I bought my JD X740.coobie

Hey Pete. This was a fun ride or all of us. Kabota makes a great machine. Good luck with it. I think you made a good choice not taking the X540. As I said a few pages back my neighbor has an x540 and is ok with it but has had his share of problems and has become disenchanted with John Deere and the dealership. I don't think the value is there anymore with the JD lawn tractors other then the X700 series which you know is completely different machine then the X300 & X500 series. Before I had my x728 I had a JD325 and that was a really great tractor. I cut four acres weekly with it and never had a problem. I paid $5200.00 for it in 1999 and when I traded it in 6 years later for the X728 my dealer gave me $3000.00 for it and sold it within a week. That's was right before or right after John Deere got involved in the big box store tractors. I really feel that the x300 and x500 series are not worth the money that John Deere charges for them. And an irresponsible dealership makes it even harder to swallow. Trust me we have our share of them here in the states.

Anyway use you new machine in good health an have lots of fun.
