Gas or Electric Golf Carts

Those are great sites however, I've bought most of my stuff on EBAY; had great luck with quality and service. Like the idea of the 2 year old batteries; do you mean the Golf Cart dealers get those?

SPYDERELK, I not sure if I have a smart charger or not. It is a Lestronic II model # 09695. Starts off charging at a higher amperage then kicks down to finish. Other than keeping them clean and full of water what can I do to make them last ? People keep telling me to take good care of the battries and the will last longer. I'm just not sure what else I should be doing. Any advise would be great Thanks eddy622611

Main thing with batteries is not to discharge them too low, and if you do for sure don't leave them discharged for a long time.

Sounds like smart. Does the charger turn OFF at finish? If so its smart. For max life I would charge on every nite that you have used the cart to any significant amount. No battery - even deep cycle - likes to be left depleted. The more depleted the worse. Deep cycle type is just more tolerant, but still is degraded by sitting partially depleted, exactly as denmansoft said. [A key additional point is that the battery pack is a bunch of batteries in series - all current goes thru each battery. If some are weaker they will get depleted more and suffer more if not brought back up. Charging the whole pack is the easiest way to do this and will not harm the strong batteries even tho they are not as needy.] Also it is important that you use distilled water to maintain the fluid level. You only have to maintain the fluid level above the top of the plates. That gives you a fairly large safe range. Rinse off the top of the batteries occassionaly. Check your battery connections periodically by feeling for heat after climbing a hill or pushing against locked brakes for about 5sec. Connections should not warm much or at all noticeably. If some stand out, clean and remake the connection. If you dont the thermal cycling will slowly loosen the connection til it starts to get really hot and you get a meltdown:eek:

SPYDERLK, Thanks for the reply. Yes my charger turns off. I'm lucky my first set lasted as long as they did. I use to run them till the cart would start to lose power before I would charge, sometimes barely getting back to the garage a couple times we had to tow it. I've allways been a little nervous about washing the batteries. When we first bought this cart I cleaned it all up, and washed under the seat uncluding the batteries. Then the cart wouldn't move. I thought that I had burnt out the controler. Luckly when it dryed out everthing was fine. Thanks again, eddy622611
