Same thing here... Price jumped 20 cents overnight. Seems they instead of using the LIFO or FIFO method of pricing, they use highest price either in or out. There doesn't seem to be anything standard about gas stations pricing systems other than charge the highest price the public will pay.
People will pay no matter what, who's going to stop driving, maybe reconsider a trip or something but everyday? I agree, I think they just do what they want, not depending an anything...

Well if USA President and other politicians would allow a new Pipeline from Canada thru USA to your refineries , our cheaper Alberta oil could help keep your gas prices down and prevent your needing expensive and politically dirty oil from South America or middle east , but Obama is letting the enviro zealots run his policy , and meanwhile the zealots ignore their own dirty coal and fracking too and instead point fingers at Canada. ..........we live in a topsy turvey world where common sense was thrown out.

That "cheaper Alberta Oil" is designed for EXPORT.
from How would the Keystone pipeline affect U.S. gas prices? - CBS News
Keystone would transport crude oil from the tar sands regions of the Canadian West, across parts of the U.S. Midwest and down to refineries on the Gulf Coast for potential export overseas. The House of Representatives on Friday passed a bill expediting construction of the pipeline, which has been delayed for years because of political opposition and concerns about its environmental impact. The Senate will consider a similar measure on Tuesday.

Some critics contend that the pipeline could cause gas prices to rise, especially in the Midwest. That's because the oil that would be transported is not intended for American consumers. Rather, the Canadian oil currently sent to refineries in Illinois, Ohio and elsewhere in the Midwest would end up being diverted to Keystone, chiefly for export to markets overseas.

Sort of like building a road across YOUR land so a neighbor could sell his stuff cheaper to YOUR customers.

Take that argument to Politics.

ooopppss - Local gas stations that jumped their prices up 20 cents overnight just jacked up the price ANOTHER 15 cents overnight. 35 cents in 2 days? What a rip.

Looks like the price of oil on one of the benchmarks had gone up over $3 over the last week.

The local fill up I did a few weeks ago was $1.95. Then we did a trip and we saw diesel prices 10-20 cents cheaper. I paid around $1.90 per gallon on the trip. I had to fill up again yesterday and the local station I use, which was the cheapest of the four stations I pass, was back up to $2.05. We drove past a different station this morning and the price was $1.99. That station is usually the lowest price but I seldom drive near that station. Ironically a few months back, I knew I would need fuel so I planned on filling up at that station and it was higher than some of the other stations. :confused3:

My local gas stations used to very predictable regarding price. Over the last year or so, it has been a flip of the coin as to which station would have the best price. :confused3:

You play the game the best that you can. I was paying around 1.44-1.45 when it jumped to around 1.95. I had acually paid 1.41 with my discount shoppers card at a Kroger's plus I filled my gas jugs at the same time. I was meaning to get my gas pig truck out to fill when it jumped so I started using the jugs as needed.

I look for the best price on Gasbuddy then plan my trips accordingly the best that I can. I am starting to see it around 1.75 now.

But then, even if it was a buck a gallon, I still plan trips to maximize my gas expenses. But then I can remember the seventies when I had just bought a new IH Scout that was good for about 8mpg.

A few weeks ago gas was under 1.50 per gallon at a couple of stations. Now it's up to about 1.70.

I quizzed my local Kroger store manager about the bouncing around prices on fuel. He readily admitted they do a daily survey of area fuel stations and set their price .03 less. Their retail price has nothing to do with the price they buy it at; only to beat the close competition. I use their gas point reward to the max as we use 200-300 Gl/month. Makes us a loyal Kroger customer which is playing right into the game; except we find their retail prices and discounts better on groceries and other commodities than the competition also. They even have prices better than the military commissaries and exchanges which we could also use.
