Is it just where I live or do gas stations limit credit card purchases to $50 maximum at the pump?

It seems like a waste of time to have to run the card twice just to fill the 33 gallon tank on my 3/4 ton pickup and in my area I can only use the same credit card twice in one day at the same station without it being rejected...

I called Visa and they said it is up to the merchant and the merchant said it is Visa...

No limit around here.

In our area it depends on the station. I've seen some with a $30 limit, some with $50, and most with no limit.

Probably both are in cahoots. The $50 limit that one has to pay when a stolen card is used, is probably the reason. The VISA and station make the deal between them, I'd suspect.

If me, I'd find another station. Can't all be that way. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Can't say that I have ever seen a limit around here. I know that I would be like you and not like it when I needed to fill both tanks.

Have run into that problem with the 99 Suburban with a 42 gallon tank. My solution to that is to go inside and pay.

Also now have a 05 Silverado that only had a 24 gallon tank so have not run into the problem since having picked that up. Sort of miss having to stop only two times for gas on my annual 2000 mile trip to Florida.

It is not all stations that do it, but you never know which one it will be until it stops.

Lowering the gas a dollar or two a gallon would solve the problem.

The merchant controls the limit. The WalMart near me has the amount set at $75.

I've only encountered that twice; once in West Virginia last September and once about 12 years ago when I was driving a motorhome with a 90 gallon gas tank.

It must be a Washington thing. When I used my sons (lives near Sunnyside, WA) Dodge diesel pickup last year. Stopped at a station to fill it up. Pump stopped at $50. Went inside to ask why. Attendant said it was their limit. He told me to just shut pump off and insert card again. Then restart pump. Took another $25 to fill up tank. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
