I would just get a new cap. Drilling it out is just going to let dust and gunk into your tank, while letting gasoline slosh out into a hot engine compartment...Not recommended.
Many moons ago, I drilled out a gas cap on a problematic engine. It solved the engine issues, but sprayed gas around like cheap perfume on Saturday night...I replaced the cap about one use later.

Although this is an older thread I decided to bump it back to the top because I am having the same problems with my gas cap, this and no one has said anything for a couple of days. I can't tell if my tank is leaking from the seal or the cap itself. It don't look like it has a breather hole but some type of pressure mechanism in the cap itself. I think the cap is just to tight an the tank is trying to pull in air to equalize the pressure but it is not getting enough. What have any of you done with good results? Drill out the little rattle thing or what? The smell of gas concerns me and my tank looks like Mossroads. Thanks
