When using a torch whether welding or cutting, or when MIG welding, I wear a heavy welding glove on the left hand and a light weight leather or leather palm work glove on the right hand. With the torch, the left hand is closer to the flame when cutting as you use it as a steady rest, and closer when welding as it's holding the filler rod. The heavy glove lets you handle hot metal while the thin glove still gives dexterity. Anybody need right hand welding gloves??? I need to find a left handed welder! LOL
I use a tinted shield with glasses or safety glasses underneath when using a torch. Sooner or later, something will get inside that shield.
Unless you're a bit of a *********, wear that welding jacket. Sparks tend to gravitate to the crook of your elbow. The resulting "Jump" makes for a really ugly cut.
