Oil & Fuel Gasoline in diesel

I hate to admit it, but I did the same thing last year. I didn't grab the wrong gas can; I grabbed the wrong hose at the gas station. I was not aware until I smelled the gas while filling the tractor. I shut the valve off at the bowl and drained the tank. I refilled with diesel and drained again. After that I refilled with diesel, opened the valve, and started. No problems and I make darn sure that it does not happen again.

Been there but didn't drain all lines. Shut off under tank, removed line, then drained tank in to truck as I had only added 1 gal. I then removed filter and replaced after blowing out line. After loosening inlet line at pump, turned on shut off valve at tank and preasurized tank until I had good flow from inlet line and reinstaled. No need to bleed pump or injecters.

I did not drain all of the lines. The tank was about half full and only put about a gallon of gas in the tank; so I just cut the valve off at the bowl, disconnected the incoming line at the bowl, and drained the tank. I didn't think that the gas could have gone that far (all the way to the bowl) so I just drained what was in the tank.

I am late in replying cuz I been away... If you only put one quart in and u have a 5 gallon tank u would be ok just to fill the tank with diesel. Old timers did use a little gas to clean the injector pump.......It would be ok but I bet u have changed it out already....... I would have ran it through..... I prob would refill after each use but I do that any how........If you ran too much gas it would hurt your cylinders and your injectors but one quart in 5 or six gallons one time might even be good for it...........I use power service which does about the same thing only safe for all the time use......

OK, I don't blame ya....seemed to be the consensus. My father was a diesel mechanic when I was a kid before he became a nurse.......That's how I knew about the gas....They would run 2 or 3 gallons in 50...

I too knew of that trick. They used to do it back before you could get the winter diesel blend. The rule of thumb was 10%.

Yea, I think I was told bout 5 percent gas or 10 percent kerosene for antigel maybe more gas to clean up the injectors?......Pird if you still have the fuel you drained you really can run it.. If you are worried just dilute it more...

That much gas in your diesel is not a problem. I used to add gas to my diesel every time I filled up with diesel to keep fuel from gelling in the winter. I drove big diesels for 45 years and never had a problem. I used to add 1 gal of gas to 50gal of diesel.

I knew one day I would also accidentally put gas in my diesel or the other way around and so when I saw a bright yellow diesel can at Home Depot I bought it! So now diesel is in yellow and gas in red. Hopefully that is enough to keep me from messing it up... hopefully.
