Gator Blades and B3030 60"MMM

I just installed a set of gator mulching blades on my BX2200. 54" deck and they work great. I am very pleased with their performance. Even though these are the magnum mulcher's and are not supposed to lift the grass like the high lift blades, they do lift the grass rather well. I could definitely tell a difference. Because it was 7 days since I had last mowed, I left the bagger on to collect the grass. I was afraid that the grass would be too high to mulch. I usually empty the bagger 4 times with the regular blades on. Today I only emptied twice with the mulchers on. They really make a fine cut. Attached are several photos.

Your lawn looks good. I have come to the conclusion that Gator Blades work better on some mowers than others. I have heard others say the same thing. I truly thought they would be an improvement on my 60" MMM. I was surprised to see that they were not. They did OK, but the stockers throw the grass out of the mower in a more even pattern and are a lot quieter. They also do not have the lifting power that the stock blades have. As for chopping the grass up into smaller pieces, I personally could not tell any difference. I would have been more than happy if they worked better, but they mostly just made more noise and I could tell the difference on the extra fuel it took to run with them. They definately take more power. I am glad that they work for you. Good luck.

Toolguy,
I definitely think the lawn looks better with the gator blades. I wonder if the 60" mower is the difference?? They really made a difference (for the better) on my 54". I did not notice any sound difference or loss of power, but then I mow with the throttle wide open.

My lawn looks as good as yours when I use the stock blades. I was just curious to see if the Gator Blades would do any better. They didn't for me. The Kubota engineers must have got it right when they designed the 60" MMM. It's the same with other brands, too. I have had two different JD mowers in the past, a 46" and a 50". The 46" did a better job than the 50". Hard to say why. They both look very similiar. At least you found a solution that gives you the results you were looking for. The Gator Blades seem very well made and are reasonably priced. Happy mowing.
