It was finally dry enough around here to mulch the leaves up on the front yard.

After blowing out the beds and stuff onto the main grass area, I had basically a 6" deep mess of leaves to get rid of.

It took 4 passes, but there is barely a leaf to be seen. It's all chopped up really small and down into the grass.

And I used side-discharge.

Also my first extended run of the 1864 since I got it (about 3 hours). I've discovered they are quite thirsty :)

I figure it uses about 1.5 to 2 gallons per hour of operation.

I wonder where "around here" is?

Does Gatorboy use Gator blades?

Northern Virginia. For the last 8 weeks it has rained either Wed or Thurs, making use of the tractor not possible.

The Gator blades make you quickly forget what a regular lawn mower blade looks like and how poorly it works by comparison to a Gator :) I have people tell me they have to go over the grass twice, their mower does not work right, it's out of adjustment, this and that to get a good cut. I tell them to put on a set of Gators and 9 times out of 10 their problems are solved. They truly are a wonderful product IMHO.

I have a Cub Cadet "GT-3100" with the 50" deck. I am vey happy with the Cub. I have been having a problem of needing to go over my yard twice in order to get a smooth cut. I have the rear, tripple bagger grass and leaf bagger and use the "high lift blades". Will the Gator blades work as well from a high lift stand point? Can I replace the high lift blades with Gators and still use the rear bagger?

With the Gators, you don't really need all that other equipment. They send the leftovers 'back to the earth'. Like I said in my OP, I mulched some 6" of leaves on the front yard into undetectable bits that disappeared into the lawn. I was truly amazed.

For $12 each, it's a no-brainer to try them if available for your Deck.

anyone know the part number for a 2042......my trees are finally losing their leaves....my GC2300 chops them up pretty good but you can still see some clippings....wonder if the 2042 would do a better job with the leaves with the Gators in lieu of the Massey.

also, do you use it with the side chute or the mulching plug?

thanks!

I don't have a mulch kit so whatever didn't go right to the ground went out the chute. In a way, that was nice because it left me a defined line to run over again.

There is a thread on Gators and the 2042 here:

You can also call Ken at C&G. If they are available, he'll know it.

In terms of air flow are the gators closer to a high lift blade or standard blade? I don't like high lift blades as I have some thin and sandy areas that just become a dust cloud in mid summer dry weather. With standard blades its manageable, with high lift there's just too much dust.
