Nice picutures and great looking farm. ps Why do the backs of the sheep appear to be red?

The red mark straight down the back is my personal flock marker.
Every sheep farmer has their own unique mark, avoids rustling and such.
You will notice some have a blue mark on the rear. This is the result of "raddling" the ram, his chest is coated with colour so that when he does his deed for King and country, you can see that he has been there, done that.
Also helps to spot fertility problems i.e. if he's firing blanks, colour on ram is changed every 3 weeks, which shows repeat visits to ewe. or if a 2nd ram is introduced with a different colour.

Sheep here don't generate much money, they just about cover their costs, but they do graze a part of my farm which isn't suitable for much else.
I hate land going to waste.
I plan to get into pedigree breeding in the near future to up the profits a bit.

Now you know all about "raddling" :)

Just curious, where are you located? I knew about the flock markers but the "raddling" was new to me. Thanks for explaining.
