Gatormade trailers still gets C grade

Powder coat always looks great at first, but tell us how the powder coat looks in 3-5 years.
I'll take an automotive primer/finish over powder coat anytime.
I have more powder coated stuff that the paint just peels off of that I care to admit.
Can't stand powder coating!!!

AAron, I am not sure about the new poster.... I'm not going to pass any judgement, but as for my experience with Gator after being a part of this forum and asking questions 8 months ago, here's my experience.

In March/April of this year, I was looking for a trailer, responded to this forum and got some answers. Anyway, as I said back then, I was going to the factory next time I was down to southern Ohio to visit my kids. I went to the factory in late April, bought a 16' tandem axle flatbed trailer, upgraded the tires to radials for an extra $100 and towed it home. I've used it a number of times to transport my tractor and implements (about 5500 lbs). The GVW of the trailer is 7200 lbs and I'm at near max with the load I tow. So far, it's performed as expected, the wiring, lights, brakes, tires, paint have been reliable with non problems. The only thing I can complain about is the trailer tongue jack. It is mounted directly behind the ball coupler and it interferes with lowering the tail gate of the truck. I could solve this one of two ways, buy a lower hitch ball carrier (using a 2" now and trailer sits level) or buy a Curt extending hitch ball carrier. I have looked and can not find a shorter hitch jack that would sit below the tailgate and I don't want to change to a different location for the hitch jack because the battery for the brakes is mounted on the jack shaft. I'm reluctant to do any welding (powder coat paint) and so far, it's not been an issue. I'm thinking that the best option would be to buy the Curt extra length ball carrier and just watch for any sharp turns if the tail gate is down (I can't remember the last time I towed with the gate down).

Anyway, buying the trailer at the factory was cheaper than anywhere I could find the same trailer in Michigan. I'd say that not counting the trip (I was in Cincinnatti anway) I saved about $800 by going to the factory.

So far, with almost 7 months of use, I'm satisfied and feel it's been a good investment. ? Is it a "cadillac" of trailers, no, but is it worth the price? In my opinion, yes.

i have owned many trailers over the past several years and i use them commercially (EVERY DAY). i noticed many of the threads here about the gatormade gooseneck trailer. i just picked up a brand new 20+5 gatormade tandem dual 2013 model. i must say that they have out done themselves. this is the best quality trailer that i have ever owned, or have ever seen for that matter! i think gator made may have had a few years where quality was average. however, all complaints that i have read have been addressed. paint is now powder coat. no primer, no issues, just clean quality on every part of the steel structure. the i beam is 14" on the neck and frame (more heavy duty than any others that i can find). the tandem dual axles are all Dexter (the best that money can buy). the loading ramps are wide and very safe. wiring is completely sealed and out of the elements. all lights are LED lights. i bought this trailer because it is more heavy duty than any other trailer that i could find. so far it has been great.

Shawn Mosley told me that Gatormade used to use Dexter axles and they had problems with the wheels coming off. So you, sorry, Gatormade are going back problematic axles? Shawn told me that they are using "American" axles when I bought mine. These "American" axles are 100% Chinese.

I don't think there's an American made axle left to buy, is there?
I was told even dexter is going part Chinese.

Well, I figured that there was at least some chance that a random happy Gatormade owner claiming to be from near their Lexington location was real...

Thanks for the morning chuckle...

I agree. Looks good new but one a chip happens its all over. I carry a rattle can of touch up paint in my trailers tool box.

Never had any trouble with my Dexster and Dexstar wheels. And yes they are American made. My trailers are Corn Pros though. Lol
