So, I built up some gauge wheels for my box blade, but apparently 300lb load pneumatic tires don't cut it. I blew both out. Any reason why I should use steel wheels? Or can someone recommend some higher capacity pneumatic tires? I can't seem to locate them. Thanks,

Had the exact same problem on gauge wheels I built for my rear blade, which surprised me because it's only a 5 foot blade and not very heavy. Only lasted about two hours. I went to Harbor Freight and bought some steel wheels with 8 inch solid rubber tires and mounted them on the same axle that the air-filled tires came off of.

I did have to cut some bushings to act as spacers on the axle to keep the wheels centered in the caster frame. Haven't tried the new ones out yet, but will be adapting them to my landscape rake in the near future and that should give me a chance to give them a good test run.

bjr,
I like those wheels but they would require too much to make them fit. I've already got my box blade rigged up for "caster" style wheels and I could easily swap in something like this:
Poly Caster Wheel or
Steel Caster.
I just gotta see how an 8" wheel will do I think.

I have been looking at putting wheels on my box blade. Do you have any pictures showing how you mounted yours?

Thanks,
FM

Yes a picture would be great. Can you add gauge wheels to any back blade too or do the new ones come set up already for the addition.

I am looking at a new 7' back blade and think a gauge wheel would be nice in the future as funds become available.

Thanks.

This looks like a pretty good way to do it. It's not mine, but I think it's somone on this site. The wheels I made for my rear blade are similar. However, I notice this also has the same air-filled tires that blew out on my gauge wheels.

The other picture is my gauge wheels setup on my rear blade.

I made my RB and the gauge wheels. I find them very helpful in getting things smooth. I can achieve better results and more quickly with the gauge wheels.
