Just added a Speeco 3-pt log splitter and trying to figure out what the max ton this would be with a 23 hp. Rural King had this item & they did not have the parts, so it had to go to local Massey dealer. It costs a bit, but the job was done right.

Tonnage is determined by surface area of the cyl. plunger face and the pressure allowed to go to the cyl. not HP. If it is a 4" and on the side with out the rod and you supply 2000 PSI (PI R squared) 3.14x(2x2)=12.56 sq.in. surface area x 2000psi=25120lbs/ 2000= 12.56 tons.
