Synthetic oil will not help with water getting in the system and freezing...

True, but from what I've read here, it will help with reducing the amount of time I need to spend warming up the tractor when it is cold outside.
Would doing a bunch of loader/backhoe work when it was raining in the fall explain why I have water in my hydraulic oil? I would have thought that the seals on the cyclinders would have kept the water out, since they keep the hydraulic oil in. I cannot think of anything else that would have caused water to get into the oil.

I keep mine in heated shop and its stored inside all year long so rain etc" water can't get into it.The only thing is that I can say is condensation warm and cold will cause condensation and possibily where you've gotten moisture into your oil.Here in Manitoba in the winter anything kept out in the cold will get condensation.On a cold day look at tires that are filled with fluid you can actually see the amount of fluid you have in the tires.There all covered with frost right to the fluid line.Same as fuel tanks,as well as trans housings etc.Thats why here in Manitoba and other parts of the country they advise keeping you fuel tanks etc.on your vehicle as full as possible to prevent condesation and freezing of gas fuel lines etc: So this is more then likely how you've gotten water into your hydro oil.Of course we all know that one other way though highly unlikely is for someone to have poured some into it?? we all hope that'll never happen.As always Larry. 
Condensation will cause some water in oil. But I am not sure if it can cause significant amounts. In an engine, the condensate should not accumulate. Each cycle of heating the oil during use, should drive the previous condensation out through evaporation. I would think this trans. is either sealed, or set up the same way as an engine.
Since condensation has not been an issue for the rest of us. I think there is more to this particular situation.
It will be interesting to see if he changes the oil, and no longer has a problem.

You might check the hydro fill cap and make sure that it is not plugged and working correctly. This is where your tractor vents condensation, as the plug has a vent in it. This was defective on my GC2310 and caused lots of moisture in my hydro fluid. Once I figured this out and installed a new one, my fluid was crystal clear and no moisture. Just unscrew it and make sure you can blow through it.
