Just looking for info. The topmost hose on my backhoe got a big bubble in it than blew. Do you think that is a warranteable offense? There is no other damage, I just noticed it leaking the other day. If not, is it a B#$#$ to change out and how expensive will it be?

If your machine is still under warranty, sure. If not, they aren't hard to chane at all. Just unscrew the ends, replace it, check you're oil. Once you've done it once you'll see it's easy.

I pinched and blew the long hose on the backhoe once while digging under a deck. I changed it myself and was not that bad. Fortunately it blew at the end of the hose and all I needed was a new quick disconnect put on.

I could still use the same hose. It probably will take 1 hour to do the whole job if your mechanically inclined.
Longer if not.

Good luck!

If there is signs of physical abuse, or, if the tractor is out of the warranty period, then it won't be warranty. This hose sounds like it blew from the inside out, making it part failure, not abuse. Let the dealer change it.

Earlier today I caught one of my bucket hoses while trying to dig underneath something and tore it.

I went to the cheapest place nearby, that I could get to before they closed for the day, to get a hose made up (I wanted to do some more digging this evening).

I have two issues with my new hose:

1) they didn't have 1/4" 1-wire ~3000PSI hose in stock; they convinced me that the 2-wire ~5000PSI hose would be 'better' (stronger/etc)
2) the stock JIC female connectors at this hydraulic-hose-making-place are 'meatier' than the ones one the Massey Ferguson hose (IE. BIGGER)

When I got home, I discovered that BIGGER IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER, when the bigger connectors couldn't be simply tightened because the larger wrench wouldn't fit (so I had to take the nearby hoses off in order to tighten the new hose), and the bigger connectors and hose wouldn't fit though the nylon protective covering, and the bigger 2-wire hose caused problems when I was tightening down the hose clamps (1 bigger hose+5 smaller hoses=1 squashed bigger hose and some cursing while 'making' it fit).

I suggest that if you get a hose made up, that you make sure that the connectors aren't 'meatier' than the MF hose connectors, and that you use the smaller 1-wire hose to match the MF hose.

I think the local hydraulic shop may have been mistaken. One wire (R1) hose is not used by MF. It is a hybrid hose the has R2 (2 wire) properties but is more flexible. 2 wire hose has a working pressure of 3000 psi, 1 wire hose has a substantially less working pressure and will not stand up to back hoe use.

This is SOOO true! I have found that some hose shops in my area do
not carry any 1/4" hydraulic hose, and I have had them make 3/8"
hose for me in a pinch. Sometimes that is OK; often it is not. The
smaller hose is not only easier to route and more flexible, but is provides
a certain amount of flow restriction that is a good thing for many
compact tractor applications. I now buy stock "standard" length
1/4" hoses and have the local shops crimp ends on them at the length
I need.

Size DOES matter....sometimes smaller is better.

100R1 hose, -4, 2750 psi rating, 1 wire hose.
100R2 hose, -4, 5,000 psi rating, 2 wire.
100R16 hose, -4, 5,000 psi rating, 1/2 the bend radius of 100R2, all else the same.
Different hose manufacturers will have different outside diameters for the same 100R rated hose. My 100R1 and 100R16 hose have the same od, but the 100R2 is thicker. A good hose shop would carry all 3.

Good and bad news. They did fix the hose for free! Yay! but the 50 Hour service was $670.00! Yuck! A necessary evil to maintain the little beast. I will be picking her up in a day or two. Lots of projects waiting. Glad for the advice guys. Also before someone asks. I didn't do it myself because I was in a car accident that crushed my knee and had a replacement so I cant bend it enough to crawl underneath as well as I used to.:)

At $670 to do a 50 hour, I don't think they did you much of a favor on the $20 hose.

I hope you are up for the job next time, you can do it all with synthetic oil, (costs twice as much), for about $200.
