Well this issue is now resolved completely. The replacement boom came in almost two weeks ago, and I picked it up last Saturday. The service department even put the decals on and new grommets in for me.

The welds on the replacement unit look ok, but on the long welds up the boom you can see the same sort of issue in some spots, where the weld centerline is deviating out to one side ever so slightly. The bead is so tiny, that even a deviation of 1mm significantly impacts the penetration on one side. I believe they pushed the design of these backhoes right to the edge of the manufacturing materials and methods specified. But I digress.

As for my dealer, I'm incredibly thankful and relieved to have found them. They're fantastic people and I can't say enough good things about them. If anyone in Eastern/Southern Ontario is looking for the best after-sale service you can get from an AGCO dealer, pm me!
