GC2310 TLB
I have a GC2310TLB with about 70 hours on it and all is great...until now.
Yesterday I ran over a stump and snapped off the hydraulic filter. Not just the filter but the stem that connects it. I have the service manual for the tractor and it appears that I have to change the entire cover.
Has anyone had any experience with this? What will it cost to have it replace? Is this something that a mechanically inclined individual like me should tackle or better left to a pro?
Do they make a skid plate for this? Does anyone want to make me one?:) $$

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a part number, you can get a price for one at http://www.jackssmallengines.com/index_mass_ferg.html.
You can change it by yourself or I have never seen one that was very hard to do. No one makes a skid plate as far as I know.

Thank you for the response. I only have the workshop service manual and it does not have any part numbers. It does have lots of pictures and procedures to servicing the transmission. Would you reccomend changing all the o-rings after I remove the cover?

I don't have any manuals on the the GCs or I would help you out. Normally the o-rings are reusable. Inspect each one as you reinstall the unit to make sure there are no nicks on them.

The Front Cover Is A Little Over $300, Plus The O-Rings Needed & Filter Of Course, I Have Seen The Nipple For The Filter Which Is Non-Replaceable, Been Drilled & Tapped With A Hydraulic Adapter Fitting Screwed In For The Filter, It Isn't What I'd Call Exactly Factory Autorized But You're Looking At 1 Hr Of Labor As Opposed To About 5 To Tear The Front Cover, Floor Pan And Such Off. It Can Be Done.Trust Me Your Not The First To Rip The Filter Off.There Is Supposed To Be A Shield On The New GC's, Probably An Easy Retro-Fit

I saw a new GC tractors with a filter gaurd. A filter gaurd for earlier production units should be coming shortly. Just need to drill 1 hole thru each side of the subframe to install the filtergaurd. Its is compatible with a mower and backhoe and allows room for the filter to be removed. I'm sure MF will release a service bulletin whne it becomes available.

Thank you all for the responses. MFRED Do you have the part numbers for these items? I only have the shop manual, which does not have any part numbers. I was able to remove BH and FEL yesterday and towed it into the garage so I think I am ready to start tearing this thing down. I am going to call the dealer to order the parts but would feel much more comfortable if I had part numbers to match the descriptions when I order.

It sounds like you may have done this before. Is there anything that I should look out for? Will let you know how it goes.

Well it is about five weeks and $1500 later and the tractor is fixed. I tried to do it myself but entire tractor had to be dismantled to replace transmission cover. Definitely outside of my comfort level so I left it to the professionals.:eek:

All that said does anyone know of a skid plate for the GC2310? I have read some posts regarding a service update or skid plate on the newer model but can’t confirm this. The other units at the dealer did not have one. Or should I have one made at local metal fabricator

Sounds like this system could use a remote mount filter housing to move the filter out of harms way.
