Thanks PA28150, maybe I should change my name to C172N?

From a previous post on the subject....

I found another Tach which didn't specify the need for calibration.
Summit Racing - High Performance Car and Truck Parts | 800-230-3030 - Part# ATM-3788 $129.95

Although I haven't measured the diameter of the fuel gauge, it should fit in the panel without much modification.

Does anyone know who sells the lights for the gauges? It would be nice to see the fuel level when working in the dark

I could not find the lights when I was looking, so I bought a cheap set of gauges from Wally Mart and used those lights. I also put a light in one of the blank holes in the dash for the glow plugs.

Hello to all --

I've noticed some discussion on the forum here about the older model GC's not having a tachometer. That issue is probably the only one I have with my machine (2004 model) -- I really do like it a lot! But it seems silly for the operating manual to specify a certain RPM, and then have no way to determine whether you're at that RPM or not.

I asked my local dealer about adding one using MF components (I like the idea of using stock parts). The cost would be around $300. Bad enough to be sure, but what really made me decide against it was knowing I'd have to remove one of the engine covers and replace it with an updated version that would accomodate the tach drive.

The dealer recommended I check out a local auto electric parts supplier in the area. This I did, and was able to come up with a tachometer installation that I think is just as good as the new factory version -- all without having to open up the engine. Cost was just over $200, and resulted in a very smart looking dash (if I do say so myself).

The job wasn't all that bad. If anyone would be interested in details, let me know, and I'll post more pictures.

Nice job on the install. Are you going to mark (tape on glass) the approximate 540rpm location, or just eyeballit and call it close enough?

The .pdf instruction manual at Summit's website for this tach provides instructions as to how to calibrate.
