I got a used Bush Hog last week. I hooked it up Friday and it started leaking oil right away. My nieghbor said it was too full or had water in it. So we pulled the plug and drained some. This oil was in it. It was too pure looking to have water in it. But we neither one have seen anything like this. What is this lube.

IMHO it looks to me like there is quite a lot of water mixed with that oil. I would drain completely and flush with fresh oil, then refill with clean 80W90 gear oil. :2cents:

I had to take a long look at the picture to realize the whole puddle was your lube. That is completely loaded with water! When you see oil start to look like coffee with cream, or a beige milkshake, it's a sure sign it's got water or coolant in it. Motion of the gears/machinery/etc froths up the water/oil mix to give that look. Yours is especially bad.

That needs to be drained, flushed, and filled. And maybe try to stop more water from getting in there if this is to be stored outdoors.

I would drain, flush with diesel and refill with pour able spindle grease.

Ok. That's what we were thinking. Just didn't know if maybe it was an advancement in modern lube.

Remember to fix the leak ...

May be getting water from the breather due to many cooling & condensation cycles from being stored & not getting regular use. Not necessarily a leak. With the heat of periodic use, the moisture usually gets driven off bit by bit & doesn't accumulate like it has on yours.
