I just got off the phone with my CNH dealer regarding gearbox oil. The 930B 6’ finish mower I have says it takes NH 9821006 in the manual. On the other hand the NH 84 CSR snowblower says 80W-90. There is a huge viscosity difference between the two. The finish mower grease (NH 9821006) is almost as thick as Vaseline. There is nothing on the container indicating weight.
I hate to admit it but always assumed the gear boxes on my rotary cutter, finish mower, and snowblower took the same gear box oil. After all, they’re all taking in 540 rpm but I realize the internal gear configuration results in a pretty slow output speed for the snowblower while the finish mower must have very different gears to generate the blade speed necessary for it to work properly.
Have I erroneously assumed all implements gearboxes take roughly the same viscosity oil? Please help as this will occupy the res oft my day (checking equipment etc).
Thank you so much in advance anyone who can shed light on this mysterious situation!
